Limiting the amount of times a user earns points for a post

Post by GoldenUruz on February 22nd 2013, 8:20 am

I would like to give my forum members a certain amount of points for posting on the forum rules thread I will be making, but I want to make sure they only get the points once so they don't continue to post on the thread to get the points.

Is this possible?
Point of clarification:

User registers: Points = 0
User reads and posts on Rules thread: Points +50.
Users posts AGAIN on Rules thread: Points +0.

Does that make sense? Is there a section of the admin panel that I can make this possible?

I just checked there is no way to do this. I'm 99% sure as I checked the point management system and you can only manage points for a individual forum and for messages posted etc.

You could, if they reply, give a points donation to each member who replies to said thread. However you'd need to do that manually by going into your:

ACP-->Modules-->Points and Reputation-->Points Donation

However this would be a slow process.

If someone else doesn't say it's possible... that is actually a process I am willing to undertake. My forum is probably going to remain relatively small, and doing this by hand wouldn't be a problem. Even if my forum does reach a large following, I still wouldn't mind ending up doing this by hand just because it would mean that my members actually DID read xD

Well, it is entirely possible to post without reading them. Many people believe in the policy of "too long, didn't read" which is why people generally brake the rules.

Like I said I have seen similar questions to this before about the points system and the best you can do is edit the points of a person and add 50 on via the point donation group.

So for example say someone had 50 points you edit the point filed in point donation by search their username first then erasing the point value and typing in 100. Its a slow process but it would work for a small to medium forum. Good Luck Smile
