How do I edit the navigational bar (series of questions)?

Post by Doktoroktopus on February 24th 2013, 11:04 pm

Hey there, I've been swimming through all of the topics already posted and have helped myself in many instances. Thank you so much for all the previous work put in.

I do have a few more questions though I haven't found answers to:

1. Is there any way to remove the "home" button from the nav. bar, and instead just make the header logo/picture link to the index?

I have removed "usergroups" and "search" from my nav. bar with the following code:

a.mainmenu[href="/groups"] {
display: none;
}
a.mainmenu[href="/search"] {
display: none;

2. Is there a code to change the font for the links in the nav. bar?

3. Can I edit the "No New Messages" link in the nav. bar?

My website: http://www.club1kjho.com/

I'll ask more questions later. Thank you in advance!

1. You would do this,

Code:
a.mainmenu[href="/"] {
display: none;
}

This is for your header bar:
Code:
.headerbar {
background-color: #ffffff;
background-image: url('http://i10.servimg.com/u/f10/18/08/42/56/jhocro15.jpg');
margin-bottom: 4px;
padding: 0pt 5px;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
}

You can do this: ACP >> Display >> Generalites >> Homepage content:
Code:
<div class="headerbar"><a href=/forum"><img scr="http://i10.servimg.com/u/f10/18/08/42/56/jhocro15.jpg/></a>

Also, you can use this code to remove the whole navbar:
Code:
#page-footer, div.navbar, div.navbar ul.linklist {
display: none;
}
You can add a control panel for the users.
http://help.forumotion.com/t42100-control-panel-for-users

2.
Code:
ul.linklist li {
font-size: 1.1em;
font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;
line-height: 2.2em;
list-style-type: none;
}

Change the font-family: to whatever you want.
Read more about the fonts that are available and which aren't.
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_font.asp

Why don't you add the tool bar? Pretty much helps like a navigation bar.

Hey this has been a huge help.

Okay, I've only gotten as far as the control panel. I have a few questions here:

1. When you click on a link in the control panel, it opens up a new page. How do we make it so that it only opens up within the browser currently being used?

2. Someone mentioned that now that the control panel is installed and the body where the messages are shrank, the "online" label for users who are online is now hidden behind their avatars, as seen here:

http://www.club1kjho.com/t56-small-updates-hunter-names-mod-identification-smilies-coming

(With Doktoroktopus - notice the online label is hidden behind the avatar picture)

3. So you mentioned removing the entire navigational bar entirely, and replacing it with... the tool bar? Can you clarify this please? Will it still allow my members to access some of the navigational bar functions? Nvm, I'm not very interested in the tool bar.

4. I'm still not sure how to make the logo/banner at the top of my index into the home button (when you click it, it'll bring you back to the index page). Can you clarify this?

1. I would have to review the coding to see. I'll let you know right now.

2. You would have to add some width into the wrap. Look for this inside your CSS: ACP >> Display >> Colors >> CSS:
Code:
#wrap {
width: 960px;
margin: 0px auto;
background-color: #ffffff;
border: 1px solid #;
padding: 10px;
min-width: 768px;
}

Change the width: to 1100px; That would do the trick.

3. You can see here: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0b7yxstc1
Click on Welcome Doktoroktopus

4. Wait make it into the home button?

Oh geeze, thank you so much. You're really good at this, they should make you staff.

2. You would have to add some width into the wrap. Look for this inside your CSS: ACP >> Display >> Colors >> CSS:
Code:
#wrap {
width: 960px;

}

Change the width: to 1100px; That would do the trick.

Okay this did it! THANK YOU. But now the picture in the banner is poking out a bit: http://club1kjho.com :/ Do I have to resize it? Do you know what I should resize it to or should I experiment with it?

I like that but we just bought our domain so I don't know if I want to forumotion all over our search bar...

4. Wait make it into the home button?

Yes Very Happy Can we turn the same banner I'm referring to in #2, into a clickable link that connects to the index/home page? Let me know if I'm not making sense.

2. Can you please provide a screenshot of what part exactly is poking out? Thank you. Maybe CSS will do the trick, do not worry.

3. I get you, but I don't really think there is any other option available, mate. Sad

4. I don't really understand mate, all I know that you can make the banner clickable that way it redirects you to the index.

You would do this,

Code:

a.mainmenu[href="/"] {
display: none;
}

This is for your header bar:

Code:

margin-bottom: 4px;
padding: 0pt 5px;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
}

You can do this: ACP >> Display >> Generalites >> Homepage content:
Code:
<div class="headerbar"><a href=/forum"><img scr="http://i10.servimg.com/u/f10/18/08/42/56/jhocro15.jpg/></a></div>

2. I'm sorry. How do I post a cropped photo on the forum? I'm trying to save it and input a URL, but it's coming out miniscule.

I'm not sure it was showing earlier, but if you take another look at this:

http://www.club1kjho.com/t75-font-changes

You'll know what I mean - the dinosaur pic at the top of the page is poking out on the side, after I changed the forum width to 1100px.

4. Okay, so I adjusted the coding for the Header Bar, and I removed the Home icon and link from the nav. bar, but it's still not becoming clickable to go back to the index, like you said.

I'm kind of a noob, but can you clarify this step?

You can do this: ACP >> Display >> Generalites >> Homepage content:

<div class="headerbar"><a href=/forum"><img scr="http://i10.servimg.com/u/f10/18/08/42/56/jhocro15.jpg/></a></div>

Is this in addition to the previous 2 steps? By home page content, do you mean message content? Because I've tried adding it to that box and it doesn't activate anything.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

So that code isn't making the banner clickable, it's just putting the graphic in to the text. This is the code I have right now in the message content:

Code:

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="10" width="100%">
<tbody><tr valign="middle">
<td width="75%">Welcome to Club 1kJho! This a community based off of the Monster Hunter series! Bookmark our forums, and don't forget to connect to us on social media and catch our videos on Youtube! Jump in, hunter!
</td>

<td width="25%"><div align="right">
<a title="Club 1kJho on Facebook" target="blank" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Club1kjho/362204123871892"><img src="http://cdn3.iconfinder.com/data/icons/socialnetworking/32/facebook.png"></a>

<a title="Club 1kJho on Twitter" target="blank" href="https://twitter.com/1kJho"><img src="http://cdn3.iconfinder.com/data/icons/socialnetworking/32/twitter.png"></a>

<a title="Club 1kJho on Youtube" target="blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Club1kJho?feature=plcp"><img src="http://cdn3.iconfinder.com/data/icons/socialnetworking/32/youtube.png" <="" a="">
</a></div><a title="Club 1kJho on Youtube" target="blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Club1kJho?feature=plcp">
</a></td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>

Where do I have to put the code you posted in order to make the banner at the top of the page clickable?

Speaking of which...

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/401/jhoscreencap.jpg/

This is the part that's poking out, and this is also the banner I want to be clickable, sending guests and members back to the index...
