This is regarding this forum.

Recently I received some spam mail, which happened to be advertising a forum; this has claimed that I am "swimmer" and that I have been de-modded, is that their way of a threat? I'd like to report it.

It could be spam or it could be they made a mistake and thought you were someone else. The best thing to do is put them on ignore by adding them to your foes list. To do that go to there profile page and click the "add to foes list" link.

I believe that the private message was not spam, but a mistake.
