Solved PORTAL PAGE

Post by kirkby1red March 3rd 2013, 6:49 pm

Hiya, I wonder if you can help me?

My forum is open to members only and with Admin approval.

I was wondering if there is any way of making a portal page that would display snippits of what the forum contains but which would not make the forum accessible.

When I set up a Portal page, even when I was logged out of forum, if I clicked on a topic heading on the Portal page I was redirected to that section of the forum and could read it all, which I dont want to happen - I just want it to be something to grab the interest and which people then have to apply for membership to access further.

Hope that makes some kind of sense! If this is in the wrong section could a Mod move it for me please.

Thanbks for any help,

Hi,

You can change the permission of the widgets that you're placing inside. Wink

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yes, I know I can set permissions on who can view the widgets but am I right in thinking that this controls who can see them on the Portal Page?

What I want to do is have the whole of the portal page visible to everyone, but if they click on a news item for instance, they are not then redirected to that item on the forum to read. I want the forum to stay for members only.

So the portal gives a glimpse of what the forum contains, but if people want to see more they have to apply to become a member

Apologies if I am not explaining it very well, hope it makes some kind of sense to you :-)

Yes, then let the widgets be viewable for all. Guests included.

To not let guests view the actual threads.
General>Categories and Forums
Click on a forum name
Permissions tab
View the forum: Uncheck for guests.
Save
Repeat this for all forums.

It should work.
