In progress Search Box does NOT work on my forum

Post by morf13 March 27th 2013, 4:13 am

The Search Box feature does NOT work on my forum. This has been a problem since I launched it a couple years ago. I love the site, everything about it BESIDES this one issue. I keep hearing from my posters that they are frustrated about the search feature not working. I posted bout this over a year ago,and other people had the same problem, but it was just an issue I have learned to live with, but now since my forum is a couple years old,and has thousands of posts,it's hard to locate stuff without a working 'search' feature.

Any help is appreciated! By the way, slightly off topic, but am I supposed to apply any updates to my forum from time to time? I am thinking if there are indeed fixes or updates,my search feature might work.

How does it not work?

It would only search topic titles and four or more characters words (It will not work when you search for these words: big, bee, see, etc.)

What if I am searching for words that are NOT in the topic titles, but in a post someplace on my forum?I figured out how to install the TOOLBAR on top of the forum, and that has a search box that DOES work better and finds more results, but the big black toolbar seems to take up space and hide some of the icons.

Hello,

It is indeed only applicable for the topic titles when searching accoring to TGF's(admin) post:

You can suggest it on the suggestion section, please make sure to use the search function as it may have been suggested. Thanks. Smile

Hi,

The internal search engine here at forumotion forums is absolutely terrible, would highly recommend using Google as an alternative.
The search has had an improvement made to it, I believe they were done in both 2005 and 2008. I don't foresee any further improvements....ever.

lol

the search feature for forumotontin forums are the same as regular phpbb boards. Phpbb search feature has been like this for ever, I t is only going to pick out key words, it is nothing like a Google search it is just a small search feature for your forum and dose help for certain things if you add the correct keywords for what your searching.

Other then that i would say until phpbb update it for their regular boards then i do not see forumotion being able to update it, But you go to any regular phpbb forums and you will see the search works basically the same way.
