That would make all the content inside semi transparent as well, if you mean something like opacity.
Check it by adding this css.

so there isn't a way to make the background color be semi-transparent? without making the content aka words and stuff half clear too?

Not really, unless maybe you make a background image itself semi-transparent. Then can add the image instead of the color to the background. That should do it i think.
