In progress Topics getting lost!

Post by MarcoNecroX on April 3rd 2013, 4:43 am

Hello, there are some trouble in my forums and occssionally the first post of a thread is simply vanishing, and this is bad as many users are making guides for different things. It's the second time we notice it, but it probably happened more times in irrelevant threads...

An example here in this subforum: http://www.medianxl.com/f41-necromancer
The OHMAN thread is supposedly started by X user but his post simply vanished.

And NO, there is no moderation involved here, I already checked the AP and the thread is untouched.

Hi can you please give this a try
Go to ACP >> General Tab >> Forum >> Configuration >>

Right at the bottom of that page please look for >> Misc options*
Resynchronize your forum : Tick the box and then SAVE

What this will do:

This should reset your forum on our servers If this don't work then you may need to run a backup for the Forums utilities
i would also ask do you know how long this problem has been showing up ?
i ask this as we need to see if others have had the same problem in the last 24hrs

EDIT::: Can you please tell me if this post was Split from some other thread as this will only show the posts that was split from and not the one that made the post in the first place!!!

Is it only the first message in a thread that is disappearing?

Hi

"Right at the bottom of that page please look for >> Misc options*
Resynchronize your forum : Tick the box and then SAVE"

Sadly, didn't change anything.

"i would also ask do you know how long this problem has been showing up ?"

It's really hard to track... Because it could disappear one day and then people could take 10 days to realise this happened. But it's the second time we notice it (which doesn't mean it's the second time it happened, as it would be impossible to check every thread and see if it happened in a regular thread). The first time we noticed it, was in this thread, same problem, the first post just vanished, around 1 week ago.

"EDIT::: Can you please tell me if this post was Split from some other thread as this will only show the posts that was split from and not the one that made the post in the first place!!!"

As I mentioned, there is no moderating involved. I've fully checked the AP several times and there are no tracks for these things disappearing - nor would there be a reason for any admin/moderator to do that, but I checked it just in case. So it's simple, the first posts are simply vanishing.

@SLGray: yes. Only the first one. These two examples are from a "guide" forum where people post guides, hence why we notice it here, and in a regular thread it might get unnoticed.

By the way, it's a very big forum so using back ups would not be optimal at all, specially when we don't know when the error happened.

Not seen anything like this in a long time and back then it was down to a problem with the tech end but as no one else has said there getting the same problem. so i can not see it being the same thing What the fuck ?!?

Best thing to do is ask for a pro admin to take a look from the main office
They can then take a look for any lost data and put it back or work out where the text has gone.

The 2 examples were posted here !
http://www.medianxl.com/t1338-ohman-necro
^ here you can see if you go back to previous forum and see author form the message is someone else.

http://www.medianxl.com/t1115-mxlu-faq-mechanics-guide
^ in this case the author isn't changed because he double-posted, sections 1-6 and section 7 in different posts, you can see it starts from 7.

I've used forumotion for 5+ years, and like I said, checked moderation logs and there are no changes in this. They simply disappeared Smile
Thanks

Have you ask the authors of the topics if something is exactly missing?

Were these posts very long (pages)?

See if this could be the issue - http://help.forumotion.com/t1709-some-limits-of-forumotion-forum .
Messages in a subject: 990 messages (once the limit reached, the subject is locked and splitted)

Sorry, but the only way I can think of to reclaim those lost posts would be to restore your forum to an earlier date. I tried to search your forum with the search engine but for some reason it is having some issues with the keywords in topics.

My life won't end if these can't be recovered, I'm more likely interested in this issue not happening again - it's keeping us worried. I like forumotion and I've purachsed all possible things from the admin panel and it's a bit disappointing to see this happening after all these years...

@SLGray the problem is the posts was made a long time ago and the first post was not removed by anyone or it would show up in the ACP mods sheet
the problem is that the first post is the only one missing and all the rest are there. I was gonna ask if this was the same member's post each time but when looking i could see its a random member not the same one as far as i can see..

If it was the same member each time we could then look at the post and see if there is an open link that is removing the thread but this is not the case i don't think.

Some time back we had this problem for some one else but it was more members and it was passed on to the tech's i think not 100% sure.

I have been looking for the thread on the forum but can't find it Sad
cant even think of how the topic was worded Sad

but i think this will only be solved if it was passed to the pro admin's / Tech's to take a look who knows it maybe a problem to others but no ones seen it yet

Hey @MarcoNecroX can you please confirm that it's 2 separate members making the threads to start with ??

Right so now we know it's nothing to do with what was in the thread's or siggys
so all i can think of it's got to be some thing in the forum codes or a tech problem,

If you find any more threads like that please edit your post with the 2 links in so the staff can see them.

Im sure the admins here will pass this on to The Godfather as leeloo is away right now so i have been told Wink

Ape Neutral

PS sorry i am not any more help if i come up with some thing i will be sure to let you know and i will keep looking for that thread i was talking about Wink
