In progress group pm's - not able to send

Post by felicity4us2 on April 23rd 2013, 5:18 pm

http://www.igdid.com/forum

Hi,

My problem is that we marked each member within one group unable to send pm's. But, as admin, we are now unable to send that group a mass pm. We can send individuals pm's, but not the group.

Is this the way it works? Is there a way to make one group unable to send pm's, but that the admins can send them a group pm?

Can you help with this?

Thanks, Felicity

I don't think so. If you close it for the whole group, its closed for all.

You should be able to set this in your form permissions for that group.
However you will have to set this for each forum.

So take a look in your forum permissions and permissions for the group
I am not 100 percent certain but check there.

I am on my iPod right now so limited on what to check and test, but will do when I get on my comp to be sure and of there is a way to do it.

I can't find it in forum permissions or anywhere.

What we did was mark on the admin profile that each in that group could not send private messages. Okay, now I can send individual members in theat group pm's, but cannot send that group a mass pm.

Is this some kind of gliche - if I could find a way to stop the whole group from pming, then I could undo it just to send the mass pm to that group.

Please help - we would like to keep this group from pming, but still be able to send the group pms from admins.

Have you checked the permissions in the groups themselves? Also have you changed it in the individual profiles of the members of the group?

We have the permissions marked that admins can send group pm's - yes.

We have marked in individual profiles of this group that they cannot send pm's.

But, when we try to send this group a mass pm - it just doesn't send it. It 'acts' like it does, but when we check the 'outbox', none were sent.

I have tried and other admins also.

This doesn't sound right - it should work, unless there is a setting that I am not finding. I don't see one that has anything to do with 'receiving pm's' from admins.

ok well i got mixed up with a regular phpbb board for setting permissions in the forum permissions as well.

all you should have to do is go to

admin panel>user and groups>groups

click on the group gear icon Edit and set that group permissions for only admin or however you see it fit.

other then that you may have to set up a temp admin account and send me the pass so i can log in and test it, when sending a mass pm to that group you should select the group you are sending it to when composing the message? i am sure you are doing this but be sure to check the group permissions.

Or you can set up a test member account, put that test account in the group. then send mass pm as admin and log in to the test account to see if the pm was sent

ok i got your pm.

first i am having a very hard time on your forum.
you have so many different animated gif on every page it is very slow loading, however the computer i am on now is old and slow anyway so am sure that is just on my end.

anyway i sent 3 test messages as the test account to the junior members group.
it looks like it is only being sent to little pixies the group moderator.
also you have well over 100 members in this group. so do know it will exceed the limit of your out box. Is this why it is not working i am not sure?

you also have the whole inbox full for that account but that should not affect it.

Other then that may be consider sending out a news letter to this group. or even setting up a junior members forum just for this group so you can post things to be announced in that forum for them members to see. At this point i am really not sure why it would not work unless it is the fact that there are more members in the group then the outbox folder can handle?

So i will have to to ask the godfather and other staff if they know what it could be.. i mean you have iot set right and should work so the only thing i can think that would be preventing it is once again that the outbox can only handle a 100 messages at a time before it is full.. so not sure?

oh the other 2 test messages i did through my ipod and you site was loading fine for me then. but man anyone who has a slower connection may have problems with all the gif and other stuff you have there so may want to consider making some of them images just jpeg.. but that's up to you Smile

SO hand in there and let me try to find out. the godfather is not back until Monday so may be a few days before we have an official answer and or solution.

thanx you can go a head and change the pass to the test account.

oh and what you should do is place that test account in this group, log in as your main admin send another message to the group, then log in to the test account to see if you received the messages, that way you will know for sure if they are receiving the messages. the members in this group can not reply to the messages so it could be they are receiving them, but since the out box only holds a 100 messages that's why it is not going into the out box.. like it cant just show 100 and not the others.

so try that just to see if they are indeed getting the messages or if it is not being sent to them at all. it is showing it was sent to the group leader. so if it is going to him then technically it should be going to the whole group?

We have another group with well over that amount of members - and, they all get the mass pm's - so not a limit to the outbox - though I do wish there was more room.

hmm, the fact that they can't respond could be causing it - the two members who get the pms are not blocked from responding to pm's. It still should work - thanks for checking for me.

I would just send out a news letter to that group instead of pm.
Or just set up a announcement board for that group to where only members in that group have access to the forum and can see post you post in there.

May be it is because they can not reply? i would test it.. set it to members and try to send another message to that group and see if it works then? if so then that's what it is, other then that i will have to ask the godfather for sure, i cant remember? and cant see it being a glitch if mass pm is going to one group but not another?

whatever the case i will ask the godfather when he gets back on Monday
