In progress Issue with banned member reporting the forum.

Post by FATSHARK May 3rd 2013, 6:04 pm

I've recently had a surge of alternate/spam accounts raid my forum, i have performed the following actions:

  • Banned ALL spam Users
  • Locked the forum from accepting new members
  • IP banned certain users

I was recently tipped off regarding a disgruntled banned member who is adamant he wants to get the forum taken down as a means of revenge, a current user who recently spoke with the banned user has managed to attain a supposed chat log with the banned member, it's basically the banned user asking how he can ruin the forum because he's been banned.

Today i signed in to my forum to see a forum report had been issued to me, trying to insinuate my forum and its members have broken Forumotions guidelines.

So now i am here, worried about whether i can do anything about this report i know for definite is just another attempt of jokery by a user i thought i was rid of.

Is there anyone that can advise me in what way to proceed with this scenario, my current and trusted members are worried i won't be able to keep the forum alive and i would appreciate the help to be able to put their minds at rest.

Thanks in advance.

Nothings to worry about. As long as you do not break any forumotion rules/terms of service, nothing will happen.

All reports received by FM will be reviewed and investigate, and if they found out that there no problem/you don't break any rules, nothing will happen. Just ignore the report bye

It's important to note that there could potentially be a misguided report of ban evasion on the horizon for my forum.

One of my old friends who had an old forum got it banned by being stupid and breaking forumotions rules (i wasn't a member of that forum by the way), after a short spell me and another friend reopened a new forum under a new name but in the same visual style as the banned forum, it's fair to say it can be seen as a ban evasion due to the VISUAL similarities of the forums but i have had no bans, reports or Forumotion interventions on MY forum.

The disgruntled user is trying to abuse the fact the older forum which DID break rules has similarities to my forum and he's trying to plant the old reports onto me.

I've been informed that he's relishing in the thought of 'taking me down' too...

I've also got a Moderator on the verge of going rogue and leaving, this just seems like a lot of madness all for nothing.

If it is just a Report an Abuse report, the administrator of the forum will only see it.

If it is a litigation report, the administrator or the Forumotion litigation team will see it. Usually there is a message from Forumotion on the homepage of the administration panel.

As long as you follow the Terms of Service, your forum will be ok.

I am the Administrator and i received the message.

I've asked the ex-user why he reported an Abuse and he just responded with profanity, so there you go, this is my forewarned help message, informing Forumotion o a possible mass Abuse attack on my forum.

Thanks for the help guys!

If it is just a Report An Abuse, Forumotion will not see it.

Whoever is doing it then seems to think it'll alert Forumotion directly and initiate some kind of enforcement upon my forum...

Just move it to Done Report and forget it.
