Find this codes in CSS:
widget on the left
Code:
#content-container #left {
   width: 180px;
   margin-right: px;

for the right:
Code:
#content-container #right {
   width: 180px;
   margin-left: 7px;

Change 180px into px you need

Did you try changing it here?
Admin Panel > Modules > Portal or Forums Management > Forum widgets general options:
Width Column 1:
Width Column 3:

Change it there?

The code provided by Johnny Doc seems to be incomplete, try this code:
Code:
#content-container div#right {
  width: 200px !important;
}

#content-container div#left {
  width: 200px !important;
}

You can increase 200 into your liking. Place it at the bottom of the CSS.
