blank space where site description goes

Is it important to have a site description? Is this what comes up under the search engine info when it finds your site in a website search.
If not is it possible that I can get rid of the space where the site description goes. We have put the description in the forum header design.
this is what I have it looking like BUT I would like to have the header closer to the menu bar items ie search messages etc.. I hope that makes sense

I dont think I have explained myself correctly... sorry.

There is a white space between the header and the menu bars. It ususally has the site description there as far as I know. I have deleted the Tagline or site description because I dont actually want anything there. EVEN THE SPACE.
So in other words I want the header moved down closer to the menu bar and No BLANK white in between... does that make sense.
Its like it allows for a site description or tagline under the header..
General > configuration> site description. I have left it blank but its allowing for something there so its leaving a space which I dont want???

Im not keen on changing the code as I have never done so before and Im worried I will stuff it up? So you can either lock this topic and I will have to live with the fact the forum has a big ugly white gap under the header or someone maybe will be able to try it themselves for me???
