ad pop up ?

Hi,

We have gotten complaints for months now - but, it doesn't happen often. Can you help me figure out where this might be coming from. (I don't know if it is the same site every time). We have deleted or paid to disable ads with everything that we have on our forum.
Thanks,
Felicity

Re: ad pop up ?
If this is popping up then there must be a link some place on your site that is making it pop up.
Could be a link in a post or some ones siggy or even a photo used from that site to be out on your site.
I have been on your site for all of 5 mins and did not see this ad at all so maybe you just need to get all your members that see this to clear there cache
this can be done by following this link

Re: ad pop up ?
That can make sense -
I will look for anything.
Thoughts -
can youtube videos that are embedded cause ads - even if the video is not clicked (running)?
Could images taken directly from photobucket cause ads?
Could Firefox be causing ads to open?
If someone has been elsewhere, can the cache somehow carry 'along with it' ads that could pop up while on our site?
Could Amazon widget cause ads to popup?
Just trying to get an idea of what we can do to stop it. Members try to assume that it coming from our board. And, it is happening to them quite often. It only happened to me today.
I asked for members to send screen shots. They say they are mostly popups showing up at the bottom of the page when they go to new pages.
Thanks for any help.

Does this only occur on the homepage?

Re: ad pop up ?
I have found someone on our board who is going to do some training sessions on how to keep their computers clean - spyware off, etc.
I think this might actually work - so I will call this 'solved'.
Thanks for your continued support.

Re: ad pop up ?
what that's the pop up in the bottom of that screen shot.
image host or things like youtube photobucket would not have ad's pop-up on the page.. now if you click an image then there may be ad's on the page of the host the image is on but other then that should not be any pop-ups like that.
Only thing i can think of is there is a script causing this somewhere? disable your forums html and see if it still happens then.
Also check and see if you or any other admins have added any new scripts or coding to like widgets, homepage message, forum description, announcement, java script pages or templates.
If this is happening in a certain thread. then after you disable the forums html check in that thread and see if members have something in a post, or may be even in their sigs.. you can disable all sigs as well until you rule out it is not coming from sigs.
so try and check all that first then hit us back here.. i have never seen a pop-up pop-up on the bottom of the screen like that either?

Re: ad pop up ?
Toolbars and browser aids/helpers that install themselves with browser and program updates can cause this. I had the same problem a few weeks ago and solved it by going through all the programs I had installed on the PC in the control panel and then doing a web search for everything and anything I was unfamiliar with to get more info on it. After which I uninstalled a few items in the control panel, and I think I may have also disabled some plugins/addons in the browser after looking there as well, then reset the browser home page and the problem hasn't occurred since.

yeah try all that to. it can be a number of things of certain tool-bars can defiantly come with things that would cause things like this.

It should not have anything to do with your html pages.
To disable the forums html go to.
Admin panel>general>messages and emails
scroll down to allow html select no and hit save

Re: ad pop up ?
We disabled the html - and, still getting ads.
We are working on making sure that none of the sigs and making sure that they don't have url's to photobucket, etc.
FYI - I got an ad blocker and this is the one it just blocked -

Re: ad pop up ?
A ad blocker for what? Your browser on your computer or a script you are adding to your forum. If it is a script you are adding to your forum to block all forumotion ads for all members and guest, then this will be a violation and you can lose your forum. The only way to remove forumotion ads are to buy credits to have them removed. Having something to block them on the forum for all without paying to have them removed is not allowed.
Other then that I am not seeing what you have on the screen shot.
If you did add a script it may be coming from that not sure.but if you do have something added to block forumotion ads it would be in your best interest to remove it so you are not in violation.
Then if it is something like a Adblock plugin for your browser , then that's fine you can use stuff like that if you wanted to.

Re: ad pop up ?
No, I bought it for my computer - it has nothing to do with forumotion. But, while I was on our board, it blocked that ad from popping up - that's all.
We paid a lot of money this year for ad free - I don't remember how much, but it was more than normal - for guests and members.
I was just saying that was the ad that the program I put on my computer blocked. Don't know - thought maybe it would help trace where these ads are coming from. It is just a program that detects malware. Is it not okay to have this on my computer?
Anyhow, we make sure that we do follow the guidelines here - I would not try to stop ads - we just pay for that service.
Thanks.

Re: ad pop up ?
Same thing here. This programm?bug?malware? picks random words on posts (login, today, ipad, password and others) and underlines them. If i hover over these underlined words a balloon pops up and if i click in the balloon then i go to the advertisment home page.
Thiw happend also to some of my friends in other forums (not in forumotion) so i guess it has to do with something in our computers and not in the forumotion platform.
I tried to clean the cache but it didn't work, they are still there. I tried malware bytes and avira but found nothing. Any ideas?

Re: ad pop up ?
Ok, i thing i found what's wrong. It has nothing to do with forumotion or any other forum platform. It has to do with google chrome and an extension that some of us somehow downloaded.
Go to the google chrome extensions. If you find something called MagenniPPIci delete it. You should be fine after that. Please confirm if you try it and works.

Re: ad pop up ?
I am not using chrome - but, no longer have the blocker - so, now the ad is popping up - it says - "click here to update flashplayer before continuing" - in a little box - but, it is not adobe - some ad company - I didn't click it.
I am thinking that it is not forumotion - but, haven't had it happen on other forums - I don't know.

Re: ad pop up ?
Usually that type of ad would not appear unless your flashplayer is outdated.
