In progress Mass Demotion [URGENT]

Post by Jaysonbird on May 24th 2013, 4:18 am

Yes. I administrate, or once administered, a forum that is pretty successful. We had a few administrators, and the founder has been away for at least over a year. A few minutes ago spontaneously, however, all of us admins were demoted by some odd force. The only administrator left is the founder, who like I said has been away for a while.

Is Forumotion messing with something, because this was out of the blue and makes no sense. There is no way we could contact the founder, for we haven't been able to do so in a while, and the site needs administration. Is there any way I can get the members of the site to confirm the current admins, and a forumotion official can somehow promote us back or swap the founder rank to one of us current seated admins? Please; we need the ranks back as quickly as possible.

PS. Someone by the name of Sleepyyawn may take over for me in the fixing process. He is a co-admin and good friend of mine on the website.

Hi,

This thread might help you out, please read and follow the steps given there.
http://help.forumotion.com/t81878-recovery-or-change-founder-of-an-account

I don't think forumotion will do something like that. Either it was the founder or one of the administrator that removed everyone.

But that is impossible. The founder's last visit was August 30th, 2011 and all the other administrators were removed. It pisses me off because we didn't do anything and now it is unlikely it will be fixed. There had to be a glitch in your system or something of the sorts.

The link doesn't seem to have any help on the issue, so I suppose we have to search the internet for the founder.

This is one of the co-admins. Here's a link to the founder's profile: http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/u1

She hasn't been on in ages, as Jay said. But there's also no other admins here and we haven't exactly promoted anyone shady who might have done this.

I apologize if we come off as a bit bitter, it's just that we're confused and concerned about how this could have happened and how to recover. I'm looking into the topic you linked, but from what I understand it requires at least one of us to still be an admin, which isn't the case for us.

Let's wait until the Administrators see this thread, maybe they can work something out with you guys since you guys can't get hold of the founder.

The only explanation to this is that some co-admin has messed around with your profiles & removed you from the groups. Which were the ID's in the administrator group, list them all here.

You have the administration rank. Are the administrators' usernames blue?

I apologize for my rudeness earlier. We are currently investigating any possible hacking or bitterness within the ranks, and if such a thing is happening on a cat site, that would be quite silly.

In the meantime, if any of you kind admins and mods have any more suggestions or ways to help, we'll be very grateful.

EDIT: We have just pieced together some clues thanks to our lovely mod, and we have discovered that one of our retired admins came back after a while. We do not know if it is an accident or not, and we are speaking to her right now, but she tried to cover it up with some bad story that we saw through and a new account to pose as a hacker of some sort. We linked her IP to the "hacker."

I would like to apologize to the Forumotion staff, for you did nothing. 8( I was pointing the finger, and I am deeply sorry.

Yeah. We are kind of in...a bind with the administrator that demoted us all. We really would like to IP ban them, for we fear a spam attack and would like to get everything back to normal.

Hello,

Can I ask what's the current situation right now? So the admin who demoted all the current admins is still on the forum and the only one who holds the administration power?

Also, I would suggest to contact the founder via e-mail.

No, they also must have demoted themselves in the process, leaving only the founder. Despite that, she and her friends still pose an immediate threat. They are being rather hostile and standoffish, and we have to rely on our two mods for this kind of stuff.

I have tried to contact the founder, which I think is our best hope at this point. Still, I have no idea if it will reach her and I don't know the chances of her coming back to check.

Is there no way we could just have the active admins added back into the administrator group with your assistance, or is that impossible? Sorry if that's a stupid question...

Please don't double/triple post. Your post need to be separated by 24 hours before bumping, replying or adding more information. Next time please wait for a reply or edit any new information in to your previous post.

You have to understand there is nothing we staff here can do about things like this and would be up to the founder to fix it all, However you have said the Founding admin has not been there for like a year? I went to the founder profile link you have posted and seen that the last visit in unknown, Are there any other staff members that still have active accounts now? Like any other mods still in. Or is there still a active co-admin? If there is still an active co admin then ask them to put you back in as admin, If not, and there is a active moderator.
then the moderator may be able to get the new founders account if the founder has not logged in for 6 months.

All of this will have to be passed on to the godfather or and sanket to look at as far as someone possibly be able to take the new founders account if the founding admin has not log in within the last 6 months. See usually it has to be a staff member asking to take a account over, and because you have been taking out as admin there is really no way to confirm you was, However by pro-admin seeing your rank in as admin and seeing what you have explained may be enough for them to re-reinstate you as the new founder.

Once again We will have to let sanket see this and then pass it in to a forumotion pro admin to change the account providing forumotion still have the inactive founder policy in tact. Meaning. Forumotion used to have a policy that if a founder abandoned a forum and has not logged in for at least 6 months, then another staff member can request to be the new founder and take over the forum. But we have to be make sure forumotion still has this in place and then get a pro-admin to do it, Unless sanket is authorized, then he can do it after he confirms some informations.

And actually that would be the best way to go if forumotion still have this policy. It would be a little silly to just have all the co-admins back in and no one as a founder if the founder has indeed abandoned the forum and has not logged in for 6 months. So lets wait and see what sanket says first then we can take it from there.

See now i am not following this correctly.
OK so it is only the founder that is still in as admin and no other staff.
But how would the founding admin or her friends be any kind of threat if the founding admin has not even been there for a year?
Forumotion is not going to give a founding account to anyone if the founder has been there and logged in within the last 6 months.
By you saying the founder posses a threat and is not even there? Dont make sense to me, Technically it is still her forum and she can run it how she wants as long as she is following all forumotions TOS and are no violations. Also why would a co-admin your self feel that your founder is threat? So i don't get that part. But like i said, If forumotion still has the policy in order to where another can take over the founders account due to the founder abandoning the forum and not being logged in for 6 months, Then you may be able to try that, But to me it is beginning to sound like a matter of differences and or the founder just has fired all the other staff. i mean i dont know, why would another co-admin remove everyone from staff including their self?

Whatever the case. Sanket will give the final word or where to go from here.

For this, he was talking about the administrator that demoted us all. I get how that would be confusing, however. He just worded it oddly. cx

We do have an active moderator.

This is odd. If she would have come on as Hidden or something, I don't understand why she wouldn't have done anything. We've been trying to contact her with no luck. If she has indeed come on recently, would this mean that transferring founder power would be impossible. She has made it clear to us at least in a chatbox that she no longer had interest in the forum, though if you need written word, I am sure I can find some by diggin into the forum.

Hello,

This should be the guide for the current situation:

If she has indeed come on recently, would this mean that transferring founder power would be impossible.
Yes, it will not be possible, unless you meet 1 of the 3 conditions listed on the link(tutorial).

She has made it clear to us at least in a chatbox that she no longer had interest in the forum, though if you need written word, I am sure I can find some by diggin into the forum.
You should provide a proof of agreement(when you were still an admin) that she authorizes you to take over the forum.

Alright. I will bump this.

I got word from one of the active moderators that she came on for one day for a few minutes, without doing anything or even going to another page. She was hidden, I suppose, which is why her status is Unknown.

The point of the matter is that she has been gone for over a year, and I find it ridiculous that a few minutes is probably going to make the switching of founder power void. We don't even need a new founder. All we need is the slightest administrative access so that we can promote the sitting admins of the site and be good to go.

We would just like everything back the way it was before. We are out of options and you guys are our only hope.

Spoiler:
Well i can certainly understand your frustrations on the matter, but like Joe has said in order to have the founding account transfered to someone new, it will have to meet one of the three options he has pointed out in the above link. Without that there is really nothing we can do. How do we know that she has not been logging in hidden for a long time now and she is not the one who has removed the admins.

I mean i can try to pass this on to a pro-admin and ask if they can at least take a look to see when she has been in last and if there is anything else that could be done in the matter.

Honestly i do not see why you guys just do not create your own forum and just have the moderator and all of you former admins start making post and notifying all members of the situation and that yous are creating a whole new site so this no longer has to go on the way things are right now.

If your members are active and like the forum now, then most would not have a problem joining in to the new place. And you can even ask members to copy any of their post and repost them to the new forum as well.

Other then that all we can do is try to pass it on to a pro admin and see what they think. But you have to keep in mind forumotion already has the policy in place for this and would be hard for them to make an exception for one or some and not all.

I also understand it is not about having a new replacement founder, you just want your admin positions fixed back. But only anther admin would be able to do this. Forumotion would never do such a thing and go into someones forum and start adding members in as staff, It is not forumotions position to do such things as this. It is basically up to the founder and all staff to run the forums as they wish. While following all following all forumsotions rules TOS of course.

Post by Ebonyroot on May 31st 2013, 3:22 am

Hello. My name is Ebony and I'm a moderator at WCC, the site in question. (http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/forum)
I understand that forumotion has certain policies that need to be followed and that not just anyone can be appointed admin without some reasonable proof, obviously for the good and security of the site.
Hopefully, although the circumstances are not currently in our favor, I can prove that Mistpelt - our founder - is anything but active, and that we can have this sorted out once and for all.

If you could take a bit of time out of your day to read through this wall of text, it would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, I can see that there's a lot of confusion and bad communication between our staff and yours. I hope I can clear this up.
If you need proof of who I am and my position (and everthing I say is the truth), I'd be happy to give it.

Spoiler:

To be certain, I've also added a screen shot of my ip; so you can match it up with the account I've used for this site. (hopefully no one will stalk hardcore, but i trust you guys.)

Spoiler:

I've noticed while Sleepy and Jay have said that there are no administration other than our founder, they haven't proved that. I have gathered proof of this as well. you can also tell i have a liking for red boxes

Spoiler:

We are a roleplay site, and because of this, we use a certain system that requires the frequent use of dice rolls. Mistpelt had become inactive long ago and has not roleplayed herself since the site was still young in 2008/2009. Still, because she is founder, she is often found posting in place of this rolls in the roleplay section of our forum.
If it has a symbol by it, we use it for roleplay. For example;;

Spoiler:

An example of how our particular dice rolls work;;
(and, this would also be a good time to point out ((if no one noticed)) that she states her inactivity directly in her own signature.
its been like that for so long. Even one of the images stopped working months ago...)

Spoiler:

But going back to my original point... If you look in her history, its nothing but posting in roleplay topics - members using the dice roll function for their roleplay.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/sta/Mistpelt

Click almost any one of those, it will almost certainly be nothing but the system doing a dice roll in roleplay.
I say almost because there are three instances where it is not done in the roleplay section.

This is only because of confused members posting in the wrong section by mistake and the dice roll is still used.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t8856-twistedkit-s-creation#166625
http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t10303-apprentice-to-warrior#176210
http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t3532p60-sorry-twisteh#177390

I hope this proves that she has not personally posted herself in so long that even the system can't find record of it.
It goes back as far as August 27th, 2011. That's far longer than the required six months.

If you're wondering how the site managed to survive so long after nearly five years without it's founder, it's because of a continual torch passing of active admin ship that comes with the members, and I can prove that as well (And also prove that Jay and Sleepy here are also dethroned admins. Please, Bear with me on this. c:).

In 2010, a personal friend of Mistpelt (and also a moderator at the time), named Graystream, noticed that Mistpelt had been disappearing. In order to save the site, he gained access to the founding account temporarily in order to make himself the first non-foundational admin of WCC. He also went on to make a member known as "Moonmist" the second moderator.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t1213-site-details-please-read
http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t1520-returning-with-redemption-announcement-please-post

Eventually, though, Both Mist and Gray had disappeared and it was Moon's turn to step in.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t1981-important-announcement-new-members-better-read-this

Although unfortunately an announcement was not made for this, Graystream had come on and given Moonmist adminship before becoming inactive again.
In late 2010, Moonmist decided to appoint a new admin by a popularity poll.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t2634-everyone-click-here-everybody

She ended up appointing both of them to be new admins.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t2671-new-wcc-admins-every-single-person-please-click-this

The "Bloo" who made this announcement was the one who became inactive and, without a motive we can think of, deleted all the admins and herself.
The "Jaybird" you see is the Jay you've been talking to in this topic the entire time. This was when he was first appointed admin.

These two took care of the site themselves while Moonmist fell early inactive, and Bloo at a much slower pace. Jay still stayed active and took care of the site.
In mid 2011, he appointed a new admin himself, a member named "Rain".

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t7136-new-warrior-clan-cats-administrator

In early 2012, Jay and Rain appointed two new moderators to help out;; "Sleepy" (who you've also been talking to in this topic) and "Shadow" (The later who is still currently an active mod).

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t10612-about-time-special-announcement-must-read

In late 2012, Sleepy was appointed admin and I was given the title of moderator.

http://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t12176-wcc-s-new-administrator-and-moderator

If Rain, Jay, or Sleepy (or any combination of the three) were to become inactive, it's pretty much site custom at this point that either Shadow or I (or both of us) will be appointed admin next.

I joined the site after Moonmist had disappeared and Bloo and Jay were the active admins.
In my time here, I have only seen Mistpelt twice.
Once, in 2011 when she logged on the chatbox for about fifteen minutes.
The second time was the day after the site's admins were booted. Moderators being able to see hidden members, I noticed she was on for about ten minutes before disappearing again. (I can assume we have the worst luck in the world because of this.)

In the time between making this topic and now, our staff have attempted to email the founder several times - each time, though, the messages have failed to even send.

This site is fairly old and, as we have found out in the last few days, very difficult to run with only the power of modship. The site is nearly five years old. We love this place, but we can't run it effectively for six months with no admins.
One of you mentioned that you couldn't exactly reinstate the admins, but you could pass the founder status to the moderators as they're next in command, so-to-speak.
If that's the case, I'm asking if you could please give me the new status of founder. If you guys did that, I could reinstate all of the old admins and this problem will be solved.

If you have any more questions at all, I'd be happy to answer them, so long as we can move past this issue and get our site back to normal again.
Thank you for your time in looking into this issue. c:

Even if the founder does not post anything while logged in, he/she is considered active.

To transfer the founder account to someone else, the founder has to not log into the forum for about 6 months and 1 day.

My goal in all this was to point out a way around the technicality of your policy and her logging in once after over a year, to prove her greatly extended absences and inactivity. And that if you read through all the topics and my entire explanation, we have been going from admin to admin for that reason for several years now.

I know I can get written agreement from my fellow moderator to take on the founder role, and if Mistpelt comes back in the first two months as the rules state then by all means give her the position back. We absolutely need this done, though, if you'd all be so kind to do so. The site might die out in six months without the proper resources and to abandon it after so long would be insanity.

The best thing to do is contact the founder, because if she logged in recently there is not much that can be done.

Was the founder on the forum around the time when this all happened?:

We have tried emailing several times by the only address provided on our forum, but the deliveries failed both times.
I can show that, if you'd like. One is from my own email and another from Sleepy's.

Spoiler:

This is the only means we have of contacting her.

On the 23rd, we had lost our admins. It was the next day when I logged on around noon that I had noticed her in the online list.

You are posting way to much information. IP addresses email addresses.
Please do not post things such as this in public, if we need it we would ask by pm. thumleft

Ok so Mispelt post are only showing as recent because the dice roll. that seems to be the case then.We will need a pro-Admin to look and see when the last time the founder was logged in. Pro-admins have the ability to do this Smile

Please give it at least until Monday for pro-admin to receive the request,
and we will take it from there.. Lot of info for them to go through in this thread as well. So try to be patient for them to receive it.

Pro-admins are not here on the weekends and may not even get it until monday. Whatever the case we will due our best to try to have it sorted out for yous ASAP. thanx
