Solved How to Widen Forum

Post by Ariana Grande on June 1st 2013, 10:59 pm

Hello, I am one of the four administrators to a beginning forum called the Star Lounge. I am not the founder, I am merely an administrator to http://www.starlounge.forumotion.com/

As you see the width of the forum isn't very large, it kind of looks pushed in. I'd like to know how I could increase that and also add a top posters section under the recent posts section.

EDIT: I locked the rules section of the forum, how do I unlock it? I want to edit my post. Yes, I am fairly new to this at the moment. I also have other questions that I will post below.

Thanks.

For forum width go to..
Admin Panel > General > Forum > Configuration

Find 'Pages structure' and modify the Forum width (number or %) to increase or decrease your forum width.

To lock/unlock a forum go to..
Admin Panel > General > Forum > Categories and Forums

Click on your forum(Rules) while in the forum options find 'Forum status' and choose whether to keep the forum locked, or unlock it.

You can increase your forum width in CSS. Find this code:

Code:
.bodylinewidth {
   width:90%}

Change 90% if you need

Okay, I'll try these. How do I add forum points to a certain user? Where is the CSS sheet?

How do I add a top posters area underneath this: http://prntscr.com/17yf06

Also, how do I center the staff's pictures?

Hi,

Are you speaking of the Top Poster widget?

Just add this tag around the codes of each staff:
Code:
<center>code of the image will be here</center>

Attention!
- Please provide your forum URL at all times.
- When the issue is solved, please mark it as solved.

Yes Sir Chivas, I am talking about the top posters widget. I want to enable it.

How do I disable the administrator actions in the admin panel?

I mean when you're in the administrator panel, and you can see administrator and moderator actions. Their previous actions. It keeps track of that. How do I disable that?

Also, how do I add a top posters widget?

You can not deactivate the administration panel of keeping a record of the actions of administrators and moderators.

http://prntscr.com/1863zk

How do I change the part that fills the bar in? As you see in the link, it's not right and although they are at different numbers, the bars remain the same. This is also the layout used in the polls: http://prntscr.com/18645d

How do I change these so that they move depending on the number, and how do I reset it to basic design? These are horrible.

Hi Ariana Grande.I understand you are new here. However, please only one or two questions per thread. Your asking many other things that are not related to your initial inquiry of your topic title on how to fix the forums width. This can tend to make things difficult for others that may have some of the same questions via the search option along with us prolonging threads that could otherwise be marked solved and sent to archives.

Please only stick to the remaining questions you have in this thread and we will try to answer them for you. If you would like to ask anything new that's not related to anything you have left in this thread now,Just start a new topic in the appropriate sections of the forum so we do not get multiple questions all in one thread.

Thanx Wink

Now who would like to help tackle whats left of the remaining questions?geek
I will have to give it another read through first. lol

info added

Just to add to this one.

They are there for records to keep track of everything that may be added, deleted, bans etc and can come in handy down the road for many things. thumright

@Ariana Grande wrote:How do I add forum points to a certain user

Type inthe users name you want to add points to then add or deduct what you like and hit save Smile

For this, they are just the images being used, they will not fill in with blue if thats what you thought. If you notice, some are longer then others. the longer ones means they have more post in as top poster, and for the polls it will be the percentage of what votes are what according to how the poll is created. You can easily change the image to any kind of bars you like in your pics management.

Admin panel>display>pics management>advanced mode

You may want to take a look in graphic section here on the support forum and see if there is anything you like. Or you can post a request to the graphics designers to create you a new custom one, or just Google images, i have used some cool animated gif bar images before that worked pretty well. but depending what kind of animated gif image you use, you may have to dig around a little to see what fits and works best.

Dose that about do it for this thread or is there a question i might have missed.. lol Razz

Thank you Kirk, but as to the polls and top posters I meant this: http://prntscr.com/187y1w

How do I get rid of that bit of blue that is in the bar? I've looked through the pictures in the display tab and found nothing to match that. I'd only like the bar, without that terrible plaid pattern to start it.

Oh OK. Strange.
did you check where the images for the bar are. there should be three images there all together. my guess is the blue is probably the left image?
Not sure without seeing my self in the admin panel.

Go back to

Admin panel>display>pics management>advanced mode

scroll down to
vote bar left
vote bar center
vote bar right

if you have a blue small image in vote bar left.
then try adding this link and see if it helps, add the direct image link.
or you can just add all three of these images. be sure to save your other image links first in case you don't like it and want to add yours back, i am not sure if it is the same bar or not.

vote bar left

vote bar center

http://illiweb.com/fa/subsilver/voting_bar.gif

vote bar right

http://illiweb.com/fa/subsilver/vote_rcap.gif

Also like i said you should check out the graphic section,
there may be some different bars in there you would like to use

Thank you, I found out the problem. One of the other administrators put the background as vote bar left.

Please provide the link for vote bar/poll bar graphics please? I searched all over the forum and couldn't find the thread.

Other than that, request lock. Topic solved.
