In progress Redirecting from current domain to another

Post by Hobo606v2 on June 3rd 2013, 8:49 pm

Hi all,

My current site (www.606v2.com) was purchased through forumotion credits. No issues with that and happy to keep it.

However, going forward, I would like all of the content from the forum to be under a different domain name ie www.example.co.uk which I am happy to buy from forumotion too.

My question is this (and could you please answer in simple, easy to understand language!):

1. If we change to the new name (Example.co.uk), will all of the current content stay on the site?

2. If it does, is it possible to redirect the old name to the new address (happy to pay for 2 domain names)?

3. I have another site (www.v2journal.com) through another provider (ipage) - is it possible to add the current forum to the domain name of www.v2journal.com/forum ?

4. If this is possible, how do we go about doing this?

thanks!

H

You can only have one custom domain name.

Could you clarify that more please.

If I changed the site to www.example.com and then bought the domain name of www.606v2.com elsewhere would the new name (ie example.com) keep all the current content?

You can not have two domain names redirected to your forum. Are you wanting to redirect a domain name that you bought outside of Forumotion to your forum? Does your forum now have a domain name?

we currently use the www.606v2.com domain name through forumotion.

We have rebranded the forum to be called the "v2 Forum" dropping the 606 bit.

The domain name is up for renewal in January but before then we would like to keep all the threads/ comments/ structure of the current 606v2 site but have it on the domain name of v2forum.co.uk (ie basically move all the content over to our new branding.

However, if anyone types in www.606v2.com we would like them redirected to this new domain name and the content.

AS I said, I dont mind paying for both domains through forumotion if need be.

I'm pretty sure you could make a new site on a different website builder. Then you could have the new site you make under the old domain and just type a little bit of stuff on yoru domain transfer and a link to the new site. Then new users will click it and be taken to the forumotion site under your new domain!
Best of luck! If you need anymore help, just let me know. Smile
