Hi.
Today before I sign in my forum I notice this spam links in the forum board descriptions:

Spam links in forums description Forumspam_zpse9d9946d

After sign in all the links has gone:

Spam links in forums description Forumaftersignin_zpsa057847f

This links showing in the forum was linking some key words and directing to specific user and items on Ebay . (see links for more info)

This is Forumotion spam from one of your advertisement developers ? I think is an abuse for your members.

Some of the links for ebay (not general ebay store but personal items) was this ones:

Link

Was more links around the forum to different products triggering keywords.
I would like forumotion to investigate this case or I will have to contact ebay and relate the situation.

if this is the same (joker) who invented the pop up system to forumotion, I do recommend you to ban this guy. On the other hand just for your information, this can be deal as an affront to the consumer wrights. This developer can bring trouble to forumotion headquarters.

Best Regards

Hi,

As far as I know it's a test that they're performing. This text links should only appear to the forum's guests, not the ones log in. For the moment, it is not expected to make it optional for forums.

It is a new ad system that Forumotion is testing.

Since I know someone will probably ask this, do we have a method of removing it?

Better then remove the advertisements of forumotion is remove ourself from this forum. I feel like a guinea pig at the moment and am afraid for my privacy and security... "Just testing" how far they can go until they destroy what was a good service before ;)I do not touch my forum till the experiments are finish and then I will decide what to do next. If Forumotions want to make experiments with the forum they should do on theyer own, not in the members forums.

"Quote didnt work"

It was test on all forumotion forums probably who hadn't removed advertising. It was done on the forum I own as well as I can understand your frustration. I checked my forum and I think the links are gone now.

So they should have a beta forum. I found this adverts a very tricky situation. I would pay the £7 a year to remove the adverts from the forum but my point is not that, is the attitude towards the forum members. If they want to put more Ads in the forum they should do it official and not be sneaky !

I do agree with you that the methods they were using aren't exactly very morale and it would have been nice if they had posted an announcement about it saying that they are testing them and the reason why they are testing and the reason why they might be implemented within the future.

However what we do have to remember is that in the end, this is a free service and they can do whatever they like to the forums. I'm not saying I condone it but they can do it and I like forumotion its a good service and I think you do get amazing support to make a great forum.

However I do agree with you that they should have at least informed us that they were testing it out rather than us having to ask on the support forum.

Yes they are in my opinion one of the best free forums hosts around and I guess you have to take the good stuff with the bad stuff.
