In progress (Only Topic!) New Editor

Post by TWYLYGHT June 12th 2013, 3:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

Is there a way to opt of this new editor? If not is there a way to at least set the smiley's back to the old way. They are hard to see even with the mouse over feature. Any member we have with poor eye sight will not be able to use them. I ware glasses and it's hard for me to make head nor tails on the smileys.

Thanks in advance for a quick reply.

Edit:
A few solutions for the problems.

After my first negative reaction (which was increased due my black forum look) I tried play little with new options and they looks interesting. However will be rly nice to offer forums administrators ways how to customize new editor look in final editor release:

Buttons background color
Add line between buttons area and text area (and if possible option to set color)
Set own minimum size for editor (tables in two rows in "quick reply" not look nice ... imo) .... I see reply above
Option how to change editor text default color.

thx in advance

as i sayed, you can not choose between the old and the new editor as they are incompatible. FYI, the new editor as the old one is not intended for use on mobile devices whenever you have a mobile version of the forum...

Please don't dismiss this. They are not using the mobile versions. They are using normal, classical versions of the forum, they are looking at in in desktop mode and it looks EXACTLY as on desktop except for the editor, which is a blank white box with no buttons. The previous editor displayed exactly as it did on desktop, but this one is non existent. Can we please get back the old editor?

The founder needs to do the template editing that wa provided under the "NEW EDITOR" thread. Then everything will be OK

This editor has too many bugs... I understand that it's in Beta, but it's really bad practice to push out Beta code to all of your users.  You should really make sure it's stable first or at least give the option to opt out of it.

Post by tugatech June 12th 2013, 6:38 pm

Hello,

Well, i see many messages and feedbacks about the new editor.
First, in my opinion, the new editor is powerfull and allow more customize options that the old one. Is a BIG improve (from my end: thank forumotion).

But the editor is "online" only at 1/2 days. Just "keep calm" and wait for some tips how to use it and customize it.

I left here a quick tip to start.
The new editor is based in the "SCEditor" - http://www.sceditor.com/ .
Is a powerfull editor and allow many customizing options, and also allow create new and fantastic plugins.

The "Docs" have some guides to start:
http://www.sceditor.com/documentation/getting-started/

I will start with the CSS, that allow you to customize the editor
Here is some of thye CSS's codes used: http://www.sceditor.com/documentation/theming/
You can use that to style your editor in any way, using CSS. You can even style it to look like the old one.

Another tip is about the plugins and options of the editor.
See more here: http://www.sceditor.com/documentation/options/
With a simple javascript is possible hide some buttons from the toolbar and change many options in the editor.

Now, just wait to someone explore this editor and start to create some others tips. Smile
Or start your own exploring and changing.
Just don't give a bad feedback based in the initial release. Wink
And clear the browser cache before start to say that the editor have bugs Razz

Go back to the editor as if you're making a post and hold down the ctrl key on your keyboard and press the F5 button. You need to clear your cache.

Tugatech, I am sure that this new editor has many lovely features, but if my users can't see it, then it is still a disadvantage over the old one. They use the desktop (classic, not mobile) version of the forum on their cell phones to access the forum. And there are no buttons, just a blank white box, just like the Title line, which doesn't even expand.

Sorry. (quick read Razz )

Well, for some reason exist a "desktop" (classic) version and a mobile version.
But almost all the forums online doesn't have a editor fully compatible with mobile browsers... Just give a quick look around the web.
In almost all the "desktop websites" open by a mobile browser you will find problems, becouse the website is not optimized for that browser. Wink

Is also for that reason that exist mobile websites and desktop website. Smile

I know that this is mostly the case, but the old editor worked fine and was very helpful to all our mobile users, which is one of the reasons why our users really enjoyed the forum. Is there no way to make this editor compatible as well? Why would they go for a less functional editor? This is like kicking all the mobile users, who are also valuable to the forum community.

Our PM facility does not work properly.  The message box is huge and the page will not scroll down to the 'send' button, it keeps jiggling around and won't stay still!!

I'm using my Kindle Fire, settings on Classic to see my forum as if it were a desktop. When I attempt to post the message body can only make two lines visible of text. I can't scroll very easily on this thing, and its annoying. -___- Don't discard the mobile users guys D:

as usual, if we could give you the choice, you would not even have to ask. if we choose to keep only the new editor that's because it's the only choice we can do.
since years the entire forumotions communitys demanded a new editor and now that you have it and it works better than the old one you want the old editor ... no comment

Just wanted to share this quote from the head administrator of ForuMotion, himself from this post, stating it is not possible to get the old editor back.

Yes, these options are gone, and so are the smilies or any other buttons for inserting pictures, or other editing. This new editor is simply not there, there is only a blank line for text. And this is in the desktop version, not the mobile version.

I had that problem in my forum as well. I fixed it by removing a javascript code i had. I think one of the scripts is also interfering with your forum. Mine was the auto-save feature. Try disabling the custom javascript codes one by one to see if that fixes it.

Have you changed the templates correctly? Try force the default templates and see if the editor appears correctly.
