In progress (Only Topic!) New Editor

Post by TWYLYGHT June 12th 2013, 3:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

Is there a way to opt of this new editor? If not is there a way to at least set the smiley's back to the old way. They are hard to see even with the mouse over feature. Any member we have with poor eye sight will not be able to use them. I ware glasses and it's hard for me to make head nor tails on the smileys.

Thanks in advance for a quick reply.

Edit:
A few solutions for the problems.

To add an image to the text editor, add this to your CSS:
Code:
 .sceditor-container iframe, .sceditor-container textarea {
          background-image:  url("IMAGE'S URL") !important;
          background-position:  center center !important;
          background-repeat:  no-repeat !important;

Willyrka wrote:Tugatech, I am sure that this new editor has many lovely features, but if my users can't see it, then it is still a disadvantage over the old one. They use the desktop (classic, not mobile) version of the forum on their cell phones to access the forum. And there are no buttons, just a blank white box, just like the Title line, which doesn't even expand.

You mean you can't see options like bold, italic etc and the text is very small?

Yes, these options are gone, and so are the smilies or any other buttons for inserting pictures, or other editing. This new editor is simply not there, there is only a blank line for text. And this is in the desktop version, not the mobile version.

I had that problem in my forum as well. I fixed it by removing a javascript code i had. I think one of the scripts is also interfering with your forum. Mine was the auto-save feature. Try disabling the custom javascript codes one by one to see if that fixes it.

Hi, thank you for taking a look at this, but the problem is not in my forum, as I have no custom codes. I also tried checking this forum via a mobile device and this is what I get for a reply window:
(Only Topic!) New Editor - Page 3 Img00361
As you can see, there is no editor. When the old editor was still around, there were buttons there, but there aren't any now. This is the issue I would like to put forward to the creator of the new editor. Please, can anything be done, at all? So many users access the forum through their phones, this seems like an urgent matter to me.

I think Forumotion should enable this in the editor configuration:
http://www.sceditor.com/documentation/options/#runWithoutWysiwygSupport

This will allow the buttons in mobile version, i think. Smile

Thank you! That code together with another you provided worked perfectly! Those of you having problems with emoticons, paste the following in your Display---> Colors---> CSS

Code:
img.smiley {
width: auto !important;
height: auto !important;
}

div.sceditor-emoticons {
  overflow: auto;

While at it, do you have a code to change the text box background color and font color? The white is KILLING me!

I'm using my Kindle Fire, settings on Classic to see my forum as if it were a desktop. When I attempt to post the message body can only make two lines visible of text. I can't scroll very easily on this thing, and its annoying. -___- Don't discard the mobile users guys D:

Sorry, I'm not sure if this was answered or even looked at. Does anyone have suggestions as to fix this?

I wonder why we are forced to use codes and instructions to customize an editor that we don't like. Wouldn't it be better just to bring back the old editor? I really, really don't see this as an upgrade... sorry.

Just a few suggestions that would be AWESOME. WHo knows, maybe we can do some of these already in our templates?

1. The code on page 1 for editing the smiley's heights and width's NEEDS to be mentioned. It says "auto" but you can also put in px width and height, like right now i have all my smileys at 30x30. :DThat is very important!

2. Give us the option (or code or w/e) to get rid of the smileys preview. It's been suggested by many and its quite frankly annoying. I think there might be some code we can delete in our templates, no admins/mods on here?? or add CSS that makes it so that the smileys preview doesnt show?

3. Re-alignment. Give us code we can add to our templates or CSS where we can re-align "title of topic" and our messdage body. Right now "Title of topic" box is centered, some may prefer it off to the left. The message box is off to the left, some may prefer it centered!

4. Set a message box height and width. I like my boxes big, and right now it's realtively small and its just leaving a huge blank space off to the right, since there's no smiley box there anymore. It'd be great if we could get code to edit the height and wdith and of message box when quoting/replying (the quick reply box is fine IMO, already centered, it's good)

5. I dont know if this is possible, but it'd be great to have the smiley's box back... i prefer it, so do many others. This for me would be the BEST thing possible

does anyone know if any of these changes can be made right now?? i know i could edit the width and height of the old message box, i just forget the code in the CSS :/

Before the new editor, I made signature a lot, and now... the code doesn't work...!
Before i send the new signature (in admin panel): http://kepfeltoltes.hu/130612/198026281before_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

And after: http://kepfeltoltes.hu/130612/after_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

What's the problem?

Thanks for your help.

My issues with it is in both the reply and quick reply. The quick reply appears normal, but is there anyway we can change colors on it? I have yet to find a way, and on a dark forum there are complaints of how it looks.

(Only Topic!) New Editor - Page 3 Quickreplye

Also in the regular reply almost all of my buttons are missing.

And is there any way I can get my pulldown color list back?

I'd really like that too. It was much easier on the users.

Mr. Eddster, the buttons for me aren't showing on THIS forum if I use my mobile, that's the problem. I can't edit this forum and this one should be an example of correct coding and function, right? If it doesn't work here, how will it ever work on my forum? The buttons don't show up, as you can see in the picture I posted previously.

I added this to my CSS for my forum.  Seems you can't control the color for the WYSIWYG editor, but you can for the Source view.  Just inform your members to click the "Switch Editor Mode" button.
Code:
div.sceditor-container.sourceMode, div.sceditor-container textarea  {
  background-color: #000 !important;
}

div.sceditor-container textarea{
  color: #fff !important;
}

Truly awful, how did the powers that be think that anyone was going to like this.  All of my members are complaining mainly about the emotes being so small you need a very strong pair of glasses to see them, they were much better where they were.  Are we going to be forced to continue with this editor or are the admin here going to listen to all the people who want the old one back?.

It doesn't help that the admin here are locking all threads regarding this either except this one people's questions are going unanswered and the usually practice of "this thread has been locked" implemented without a reply.  I pay for various features on this forum and think it is no way to run a business, people are unhappy, can we have a solution please.  I find this forum more than unhelpful in a lot of ways, maybe a bit more tolerance from the moderators is needed, as if I was paying a lot more for my forum I would take my business elsewhere something I might have to do now anyway as all my members hate the new editor and are already badgering me to move.

I only switched to forumotion from proboards last week as the new "improved" version of proboards was full of glitches and my members were not posting and very unhappy with it.  It was a big decision to switch as we will effectively have "lost" three years of forum content on proboards.  You seemed to be the answer to my prayers.  No glitches nice big smilies, smilies that I could click on multiple times.  Nice smooth pm sending system.  An easy way to change colors and size of text.

Now only a few days later you seem to have gone the way of proboards by imposing a "new improved" version which is certainly not that.  All my members transferred over last night.  They were thrilled - now today report after report of problems are coming in to me since you imposed this new "beta" editor on us.  they can't sent pms, the computers crash while doing it, the smiles don't appear in posts they appear as words and not smilies.  we can't make the text bigger no matter how many times we press the right "button".  It is dreadful and we are back to where we were with Proboards.

I see many forumotion members are not happy with this new version so please could you reinstate the old version, before I lose all my members once and for all.

I started a Global Thread about the new editor.  Some people were having problems.  I simply answer their questions and provide solutions and they are becoming accustomed to the changes.  You must help your members out with this.

I did add the code to my CSS style sheet that was provided earlier in this thread to enlarge the smilies.  The members like that better.  I have one member that is not very computer savy and even she says the new changes are "easy" and that if she can figure things out, anyone can.

I do have a couple of members who are still adverse to the changes but I will bring them around by helping them out.

I also have a black forum background and the white reply box doesn't affect that...no problem.Very Happy

RedMomma5, how can we help our members out with this? I don't understand. My members are used to me as admin just "fixing" everything and are not interested in making any changes for themselves.  They want it fixed and they want it fixed shortly.  Most of them have very little computer knowledge and don't want to get involved with any complications.

I have been running my forum for over 12 months now without a hitch and everything is now messed up.  Why could the people who made the changes not have made a post a while back and asked if anyone actually wanted them. It seems bizarre that they just went ahead and made such changes without asking what their customer base wanted.  I shall be taking my forum elsewhere as all the fun features of this one have disappeared overnight.

I will probably get a good telling off now for making multiple posts ( I believe there is some sort of rule about that).  A discussion thread might be a good idea where we can all hold a conversation without getting a thorough telling off for posting more than once in a set time.

The admins are saying that people have been asking for a new editor for years. But the people just got hang of the old editor. Changing it now was not a good move, since now the whole dissatisfaction with the editor might last another couple of years.

I think the new editor could be alright, but it is currently still full of glitches (freezes and a problematic default WYSIWYG) and the mobile users are now left with nothing, so there's no new editor to get used to. There's just nothing there for them.
