In progress (Only Topic!) New Editor

Post by TWYLYGHT on June 12th 2013, 3:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

Is there a way to opt of this new editor? If not is there a way to at least set the smiley's back to the old way. They are hard to see even with the mouse over feature. Any member we have with poor eye sight will not be able to use them. I ware glasses and it's hard for me to make head nor tails on the smileys.

Thanks in advance for a quick reply.

Edit:
A few solutions for the problems.

To add an image to the text editor, add this to your CSS:
Code:
 .sceditor-container iframe, .sceditor-container textarea {
          background-image:  url("IMAGE'S URL") !important;
          background-position:  center center !important;
          background-repeat:  no-repeat !important;

No it didn't work, thanks for trying.
Did you add !important to the CSS code?  Also did you try adding the code to the top of the CSS stylesheet?
Yes to both questions.

Is it set to yes for optimize CSS? Try setting it to no.

Is it possible to make the smilies open up above the editor instead of below where you type  as it obstructs the vision when you're typing using quick reply.

With all due respect, I disagree.  A good example is one of my members who always used an exact tag "formula" for each of his posts before.  That formula no longer functions.

Members of my site are still reporting the same issues they reported prior to the fix.  So I have to assume more work is still being done for further fixes.  I hope it's going well.

The reported issues are tags being added and removed sporadically, happening when previewing or editing.  (regardless of Editor Mode)

The forum in question is completely unedited.

Affected browsers are IE, Chrome and Safari.

I and my members are still trying to remain patient.  I'm simply posting to report for your knowledge.
I agree with Muddle here. But from what I am gathering by reading this section daily they are working as fast as they can on many issues but I think with the special "Regular Post Formulas" some people developed are pretty much just as gone as the old editor. I will try and be patient with a another week of updates but if nothing comes to it I guess I will have to be like everyone else and salvage what I can for my members and their character profiles.

This is the only issue I have for my forum but if this new editor doesn't allow as much coding as the previous I guess I will have to let members know to stay away from tables and such things until the problem is solved down the line. Refrain from too much coding as well even though it brings order to our forum.

Edit: Mobile Posting Issue seems to have been fixed. Thank you!

@RedMomma5 wrote:The PM problem appears to be fixed for at least one IE user (not all have reported back); however, one member reported the following problem with using the smilies:

"Nothing happens when I try to post any of the smiley's. It was working fine the other day, but not yesterday or today. I click-on any of them and the cursor disappears, but no smiley's....... :-( "

I have no modified posting body templates.

Edit:  The same member that was having the smilie trouble is having other issues as well, reported as follows:

"This stinks. The text size, color, bold, underline, smileys, etc. doesn't work properly for me anymore. :-( "

I asked him to inform me of the browser he is using and also asked him to try and switch editor modes.  I checked my Admin panel and WYSIWYG is not in "default" mode right now.

Any answers to this or anyone else having the same issues on their forum with some members?

I tried editing the above post to add additional info and the editor here would not let me do it.  When I previewed the 2nd time after making changes, the edits disappeared and did not reappear again in preview.  In other words, this editor wiped out my edit.  I was trying to add what my users had said in the quote boxes.  I use Firefox as a browser.

I also was trying to report that a 2nd user was having the same problems as the user that I reported above.  She cannot get her font or colors to work but her smilies are working.  She told me that her browser is IE.

So in sum:  Three things not working for my users:  colors, fonts, smilies (I suspect IE for both).
The edit is not working here if you preview too many times (wipes out quoted info).  I use Firefox.

Ok my mistake, I was testing it to see if it works using "firebug" as opposed to adding to my stylesheet and publishing it, and it works fine published in the stylesheet. For some reason (which I'm sure could be explained by someone) it wasn't working in firebug.

So all is fine now, thanks Ape and Sig. Smile

Is there a way to change the background colour of the new editor as when sending private messages on my forum both the background colour and the text colour are white!

I have tried changing the colour of the text using the new options on the new editor...

It does not work.

Also, since this has been introduced it has caused no end of problems on my forum, most of which I have resolved except of image resizing. Both in the body of messages and. Images in signatures have increased in size even though I had CSS code limiting their size, this code no longer works.

Can anyone help?

As from last night and on into today I'm finding that  iframes and old embed code for embedding youtube videos no longer work. Previous videos that used those codes are still showing in the forum though.  Videos embed and work OK though if the msg editor is used, although they have to be posted first and then resized if needed with another edit.

An example of a post: The first two pics show what's in the message box and the third shows the result after posting.

And after posting the video posted  using the editor shows, but with a different aspect ratio to the video viewed as shown on the editor

and the iframe embed shows as a white outlined box

This has only been apparent since last night.

Yes I noticed this problem with the videos also, the embed code doesn't work anymore for newly posted videos, you must copy and paste the url in the editors video button, or if you know the code it uses write it yourself.

This is a real pain because using the editor method it posts the smallest size possible of the video, and you can't resize the video to make it larger until after you posted it by editing your post. It even makes videos that are large by nature i.e. (HD 1280 x 720p) small like 450x320. This is really uncool because the videos look terrible forced so small by the editor, and most people on my forum have no idea how to resize. And to make matters worst most of them are used to using the embed code which now does not work. When you use the embed code from youtube there are size options you can choose from before you copy the code, but now the embed codes do not work with the editor.

Yes I have html enabled.

So would someone please make a note of this and pass this information on to the Techs? thanks

Add this code to your CSS stylesheet. You can change the color hex numbers to what you want them to be. Right now the background is black#000 and the text is white #fff.

Code:
.sceditor-container iframe, .sceditor-container textarea {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #000 !important;
    border: 0 none;
    color: #fff !important;
    font-size: 13px;
}

In progress Smilies backround change?

Post by chouzouris on June 27th 2013, 5:05 pm

It seems that the backround of the smilies window is now the backround of the forum. Is there a code to change this and make it black or white?

Here you go add this to your CSS stylesheet and add your hex color in the code below:
Code:
    html#sceditor_smilies body {
                background-image: none;
                background-color: #YOURCOLOR;
            }

I tried this code and it appears to work for BBCode but not in WYSIWYG (I can't type below the quoted area).

I have one change to my CSS but you should be able to enter multiple changes and have things work.  Maybe something else will work.  I have phpBB2 and so I may be able to edit a template and get the desired result.

Thank you though.

You might want to take a look at this post from the Godfather, its codes that need to be changed in your template for phpbb2 if you have ever edited your template before. If you have never edited your template you don't need to add the codes. However if you have edited your template before and you find that these codes are not in your template, that could account for the editor not working correctly for you. The "quote" feature for example was fixed a few days ago.

The quote feature is working now. I just can't change the color using the codes that you gave without encountering a problem. I have only one template with changes and I updated that last night to add all defaults and then added my code back again. It's not that important. I can live with the white as the background. I just thought if there were an easy way to change it, I would do it. I really don't prefer to mess with the templates because when they do upgrades, then I need to make changes again.Smile

This problem first appeared in IE after the update, Chrome worked fine till yesterday. If you post the You Tube share link, how do you then edit to increase the size of the Video ?. I have to say my members have been really patient with this new editor, but are now starting to get frustrarted, with all the problems, after all its now 2 weeks since it was launched

After you post a video when you go back to edit it to change the size you'll see a code that looks like this.

This is what it converts to after you send the post:

Code:
[flash(425,350)]http/www.youtube.com/v/lIkgNTXaHSU[/flash]

You simply change the numbers in the code. For example, you could change it to 640, 360:

So the entire code looks like this:

Code:
[flash(640,360)]http/www.youtube.com/v/lIkgNTXaHSU[/flash]

Make your edits and send your post again.

You'll have to exit the WYSIWYG mode to be able to see the code. To exit that mode click the last button on the right.

Hello,

In order to satisfy the maximum of forumotion users, we decided to bring a further improvement to the new editor by including the ability to choose the type of color palette that you desire to use in the editor. Very Happy

Indeed, it's now possible to choose between the old and the new color palette via a new option in the admin panel >> General >> Messages and e-mails >> Configuration.

Wish gives in the editor:

Extended palette:

Simple palette:

However, we continue debugging the editor basing on your feedback

Thank you for your patience,

I've used this; http://help.forumotion.com/t124648-new-editor-mucking-up-my-appearance#830404 since the change to get a black background and white text. Now all a sudden, my text is no longer white and i need to manually change it each and every post to see what's going on... What happened? I didn't change anything myself and i have no idea how to fix this..

This is quite frustrating.
