In progress (Only Topic!) New Editor

Post by TWYLYGHT on June 12th 2013, 3:34 pm

First topic message reminder :

Is there a way to opt of this new editor? If not is there a way to at least set the smiley's back to the old way. They are hard to see even with the mouse over feature. Any member we have with poor eye sight will not be able to use them. I ware glasses and it's hard for me to make head nor tails on the smileys.

Thanks in advance for a quick reply.

Edit:
A few solutions for the problems.

To add an image to the text editor, add this to your CSS:
Code:
 .sceditor-container iframe, .sceditor-container textarea {
          background-image:  url("IMAGE'S URL") !important;
          background-position:  center center !important;
          background-repeat:  no-repeat !important;

@ The Godfather & Forummotion Team - Thanks for that recent update, giving us the option to switch between the two different versions of how the color palettes are being displayed!!! Smile

----------------------

Still looking for a way to remove some of the buttons in the editor for stuff that we never use on our forum (namely: YouTube Video, Dailymotion Video, Flash, Current Date, Current Time as well as all that's under the "More/Less buttons" like Horizontal Scrolling, Vertical Scrolling, WoW, Random) - there was a suggestion in this thread to use the following JavaScript but that somehow doesn't seem to work on my end. I'd be most grateful for any suggestions or help in that matter:

Code:
$(function() {
        $.sceditor.defaultOptions.toolbarExclude="youtube,time,date";
        });

Many thanks for this code, runawayhorses. The white background of all the message bodies was rather boring & could be a little dazzling for some members. Very happy I have been able to change it to another colour which was so easy to do using this code.

Thanks again. Very Happy
You're most welcome patiogardener glad it worked for you.. Smile

@ DaDwarf

Hi, if you would like to send me a test account so I can simulate making a post on your phpbb2 forum I'll take a look at it. I need to be able to see the editor to help any farther.

Make sure you are setting the javascript to "In all the pages"

To remove the More/Less button entirely, add "more" to the things to exclude.

Removing everything brings me back to my first problem - A huge white editor with black text on my black/red background. I need a black editor background with automatic white text (So we can read what we write..).

It was working perfectly since the change of the editor but now suddenly the default white text setting doesn't work.

@musket wrote:As from last night and on into today I'm finding that  iframes and old embed code for embedding youtube videos no longer work. Previous videos that used those codes are still showing in the forum though.  Videos embed and work OK though if the msg editor is used, although they have to be posted first and then resized if needed with another edit.

An example of a post: The first two pics show what's in the message box and the third shows the result after posting.

And after posting the video posted  using the editor shows, but with a different aspect ratio to the video viewed as shown on the editor

and the iframe embed shows as a white outlined box

This has only been apparent since last night.

This problem first appeared in IE after the update, Chrome worked fine till yesterday. If you post the You Tube share link, how do you then edit to increase the size of the Video ?. I have to say my members have been really patient with this new editor, but are now starting to get frustrarted, with all the problems, after all its now 2 weeks since it was launched

 The problem is that the new editor strips the http: from the front of the address supplied in the YT embed function

You can add it manually if you wish  - like this (i have added spaces in the end tags to save it being translated into a video)

So < iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IvUEzrQBSeo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe >

I never use the youtube button, but I know it's messed up in the youtube embed code you get from youtube. Notice the "http:" is missing in the url:

Anyway, you will have to manually fix it until youtube fixes the problem.

Thanks for the above fix oggbad.

A member today has informed me of a new problem. When uploading photos, if you have entered text first, the photo link inserts itself before the text

 Have noticed this myself. It seems to happen if the image is inserted directly after the text. It doesn't happen if you insert the photo down below the text as a new paragraph with a gap under the text.

Right you are the problem is from youtube, I just posted a video using the embed code when I added the missing http: from the youtube code. That's some good news actually it means forumotion will continue to support posting videos via the embed code, so all we have to do is wait for youtube to fix their problem.

Thanks for the sharing this new info.

Edit: Only problem is I don't think youtube us aware if it. I googled this problem and there is nothing on it.

By this do you mean to imply that the full screen option is not there when you post a video via the text editors youtube button? Thats a youtube video player feature should have noting to do with how you embed it.

I still need help : / the text box now shows up black with black texts in some screens (Laptop), others it shows white with black text (Phone and main computer) and none of them show the code that i added myself (Few posts up) which is supposed to make the editor black with white text. We now have to manually change the color each and every time we post otherwise we can't read what we are writing.. does anybody have any idea at all?

The editor on my forum will not appear. I'm on phpBB3 (not phpBB2 or punBB), so I don't understand why it won't show up. This is what I see when creating a new thread:

Why won't it work? Any advice or tips on how to fix this?

I also checked my smilies. None of them have a \ in them.

Just wondering: If you create a phpBB2 or PunBB forum AFTER the new editor was applied, would you still have to change all of the template stuff?

I think I saw this mentioned several pages back, but it hasn't been mentioned since the last update. There's a problem with spaces around smilies. If you hit Preview, the 'preview' will look correct but the editor will now have the space following each smiley in the post missing.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Turn WYSIWYG mode off (perhaps not necessary)
2. Enter some text with a smiley, like,

Code:
Hello :P Bye

3. Hit Preview

> The previewed post looks ok, but the editor now looks like

Code:
Hello :PBye

4. Hit Preview or Send

> The smileys are gone because of the modified editor text.

Ok, to add on top of that, when I preview writing this post, it removes the smiley completely from the first code block!
