Solved Avatar Transparency Problems/Blocking Online Badge

Post by Cman on June 14th 2013, 4:18 pm

http://www.firealarmsrme.org/t2-image-uploading#2

I have two problems:

  1. The transparent image is appearing with a black background.
  2. The avatar is appearing to be on top of the online badge.

How can these be fixed?

1) Use forumotion's "Link to an offsite Avatar" method when uploading an avatar. Requires you to have the image upladed somewhere else, otherwise all transparency is lost.
2) Widen the table a bit. Use CSS to do so.

I was testing the site's avatar gallery.  So, the any transparent avatar uploaded into the avatar gallery loses transparency?

So, is there not a way to make the online badge overlap the avatar?  I need this so if a user has a larger avatar, the same thing does not happen.

forumotion always just saves .jpgs into their database because .pngs are uncompressed images, thus using more space and cost more resources to load.
When you link to an offsite avatar, it takes forumotion less resources to insert a simple img tag and lets the client load the avatar while the database itself is not used as much as it would be with .pngs.

I will find a solution for your second problem when I get back on my PC, no worries.

Ahh, I see.  I will just stick with JPEGs.

How do you add the Online badge to the profile again?

Is it via the templates or via JavaScript?

It comes with the theme.  It is not in my JavaScript, and I don't have template editing (phpBB3).

I see.

Try adding this to your CSS.

Code:
img[src="http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver/icon_user_online_en.png"] {
padding-left: 30px !important;
margin-left: 30px !important;
}

Earlier in the thread, I had a transparent image, but it came out with a black background.  I just uploaded that wide image to test it with the badge.

Richard., I already explained that to him. Wink
Read up a few posts and you'll see.

The problem is the placement of the image, that's what I am trying to hide.

Try hosting the image somewhere else, not on Servimg.

I tried it with TinyPic, and it still did it.

I don't want to have to make the maximum avatar size small to overcome this.

When I visit your forum, the avatar is stretching outside the border of the message profile. The right side is over the message border. It is stretching into the space on the right side of your forum.

Look fine now.

Add this to your CSS:
Code:
.postprofile dd, .postprofile dt {
    margin-top: 15px;
}

It moved the avatar down, but now there are large gaps:

Is there anyway to make the online badge overlap the image?

Solved Re: Avatar Transparency Problems/Blocking Online Badge

Try this code:
Code:
.postprofile dd, .postprofile dt {
    margin-top: 15px;
    display: block;
}

Remove it if it messes the area, right now I don't know the code for the online icon to overlap the avatar, one solution for this is to move the profile to the left instead of right(if you only want to).

That did the same thing with the gaps.  Don't worry about it, I could probably make a maximum avatar size.  I prefer the profile on the right, and, anyways, it looks silly with the online badge just stranded on the right away from the profile.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this.
