custom navigation - new messages code

Post by novacane. on June 29th 2013, 8:53 pm

so i have this custom 'toolbar' and i just wanted to ask what's the code for one or more new messages.
like when the user is logged out or logged in there's:
Code:
<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_out --> <!-- END switch_user_logged_out -->
<!-- BEGIN switch_user_logged_in --> <!-- END switch_user_logged_in -->

so like what's that kind of a code for when you have a new message? cuz i want it to change to something else when a user gets a private message. i hope i made it clear what i'm looking for :/

should be something like this.
but all depends how you are setting your nav bar up as well.

login logout

Code:
<a id="logout" rel="nofollow" href="/login?logout=1</a>

private messages

Code:
<aclass="mainmenu"href="/privmsg?folder=inbox">

no, i got that part alright, i'm just asking how to change the text if the member gets a new message so it will be like this:
no new messages: mailbox
new message: mailbox (new)
or something like that Smile

oh this should work then.

no new messages
Code:
<a href="/privmsg?folder=inbox" class="mainmenu">
<img id="i_icon_mini_message" hspace="2" border="0" title="You have no new messages" alt="You have no new messages" src="http://illiweb.com/fa/empty.gif">
You have no new messages
</a>

Then send your self a message with a test account and it should say new message automatically.. i think???? you have to test it.

You'll need to keep the default navigation bar within your page (but hidden) in order to get that information and change your custom link.

Yeah i don't understand why you are doing it this way. you dint send the css with it so i cant see what the significance would be on why you are setting it up this way. If you have created your own image buttons then you should just use these as your new images in your pics management. You want to set your navigation option to show images only, then add all the new image buttons in your pics management.Then any css for hover or what not can be added to your css. unless you are creating some sort of spry menu, drop-down menu or slide menu i do not see why you would go through the trouble of setting it up the way you are. But once again i am not seeing it with the css included either.

Other then that i do see how you have it in order and is a little different then i thought.so i will see if thee is anything in a template for the way you are setting up but like LG has said above it may have to just be that way.

As far as the messages you can always just have a the messages buttons in place on the forums navbar only for new messages and messages, then have all your other navigation custom as your are doing. I will look at one other thing and see whats what as well .

Without seeing how the bar is supposed to be when completed>without the css included. there is no way to know what it is your doing. you might be going about it in a more difficult way when all can just be added to pics management, then css.

i understand you, but see, i hid the original navigation in order to do it as you can see here:
link deleted
this is my test forum and you can see the bar on the top of the forum/screen (:
and i sent you the CSS now if you need it ^^

Try making a new javascript with this - be sure to tick "on all pages".

Code:
$(function(){
$('a.mainmenu:contains("You have 1 new message")').text('Check your PM bro!');
});

and

Code:
$(function(){
$('a.mainmenu:contains("You have no new messages")').text('Messages');
});

Edit where it says 'messages' and 'check your PM bro!' to change it to your own custom text. =)

cant you u just use the forums navbar with text only then add the css you have?

i don't get it. all it seems to be is a plain text navbar at the top of the page.

i mean i could use the forums navbar, but it seems to me that it's easier to edit like this? since i can bold some buttons and add text in front of some (:
