Privacy
I have a flag counter on my site as a widget(The last one) and if you click on it it redirects to a different site which tells you more specifically (Like Mississippi etc. I do not live in Mississippi)
Could that be said to invade privacy or not? I'm just making sure before i lose the little users i have. Please help! My website is URL everyonesblog.net

Re: Privacy
Some members might not like knowing that their information is being shown that way. I know I do not like it. For some members, they could say that it is an invasion of their privacy.

Re: Privacy
Hi!
It's not something illegal, so it's your decision what to do in this situation. You have 2 options hovewer:
1. First is to explain that member that you can't view this type of information and all the users can see only their own country/ip, not other users too.
2. And the second is to remove the script.

Re: Privacy
Some people won't want their location being shown or have any kind of info showing about them.

Well when we register here on this forum, location is one of the mandatory profile fields we have to fill in.

Yes it is, on the other hand I think that's for a few reasons:
- Detecting duplicate accounts
- Language, if the staff know someone comes from say Germany they can direct them to the German support forum or they can try and keep language simple as not to confuse someone who speaks poor language.
- Also you have a choice, you can lie (although lying is pointless due to IP searches) or you can be very wide with your answer. e.g. United Kingdom, USA,
So these places are generally big enough that someone isn't exactly able to hunt you down. I wouldn't say this invades peoples privacy, I don't know if this flag thing would invade, as saying you live in a state is a very wide range. its not like you're saying oh yeah I come from Scotland, I live near blah...

I had members on my forum say they were from England but the IP showed as USA. Location can also mean the country you were born in to some people.
Or if you are in England for a short time but from america,a member might want to put USA. So what as it does not really matter. The location profile field is just there so that other members reading the profile will find it more interesting.

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at? Of course I know why people fill in these fields and why forums have them set to mandatory and IP addresses isn't exactly a trusted source when it comes to giving a location as people can use proxies. I also am aware when they ask location, I know they don't mean give you street, I said in that in my post. It was merely pointing out this flag business.
