Bumper Stopper
Should we have this feature?
Bumper Stopper
A nice feature to have would be where a user could not bump a topic unless the specified period of time has passed, or someone else has already posted after them.
Re: Bumper Stopper
Is this what you are referring to - http://help.forumotion.com/t38504-automerge-double-post ?

Re: Bumper Stopper
No, it would just disallow the member to post, and would tell them to edit their previous post. It would not bump the topic at all.
Re: Bumper Stopper
Exactly it would automatically merge the double posts.

Re: Bumper Stopper
Well, with my idea, the two posts would not merge. This is basically the same as the linked poll, I will just vote there.

Re: Bumper Stopper
I've seen on many forums outside forumotion that automatically stops one replying to a thread if he, himself was the last to post.
Its effective in stopping double posts.

Re: Bumper Stopper
Yeah, nice feature, and besides, pure PHPBB forums has this option, and is very useful to avoid doublepost (intentioned or not)
But, one important detail: this shouldn´t affect to the Staff, because if you have for example one post where you (as Admin), post the users that became staff, is obvious that only you will post in that thread.
So, you have my vote but having count that little detail

Re: Bumper Stopper
I know SMF has a mod for this kind of feature.
In pure PHPBB`s you don´t need to install any mod, because this is a native option

Re: Bumper Stopper
Ah yes, you are correct. I just checked the admin panel of my test phpBB3 board.
EDIT: Wait, isn't that setting just for bumping the topic in general? I'm talking about not allowing bumping by a member who has the last post in the topic.

Erh....I don´t remember exactly, and actually I don´t have any forum where I can test the option, but I think that the option doesn´t allow you to post into a post if the last answer in the post is yours, I think.
That´s what you were suggesting, isn´t it?

That is exactly what I'm suggesting, but I think that option is just for bumping the topic in general.

So, is your suggestion for an specific topic, not all topics?

Re: Bumper Stopper
The quote in your post was what I was saying the pure phpBB setting was for. The pure phpBB setting (I think) disallows anyone to bump the topic, regardless if they have the last post or not.
What I'm suggesting would only disallow them to bump the topic if that user has the last post in the topic. Other users would be able to bump the topic.
