In progress BBC Code is Duplicating

Post by killer9win1 July 25th 2013, 7:16 am

Not sure if this is the right area. If it's not, I'm sure it will be moved.

But on my Forum, when BBC Code is used and you enter the message, the BBC Code will end up duplicating itself. I'll provide an example.

Before Post:
Code:
[b]Hello[/b]
After Post:
Code:
[b][b]Hello[/b][/b]

Before Post:
Code:
[font=georgia][size=10][b]Hello, everyone! Welcome![/font][b][b][b][b][b][/size][/b]
Code:
[code][code][/code]

Help?
[/code]
[b][b]
  [/code][b][/code]

[/b]

I can use it normally, something that you are doing incorrect.

Except I've been using Forumotion for over 5 years and am doing everything the exact same way I have been since I got on here, with the inclusion of everyone on the forum that I'm on.

And uh, let me quote what I said, "Sorry for double posting."

I write out my coding. Let me go ahead and try it again here, though.

I'm hoping this works right now

Additionally, I put in my closing tags in the same order I entered them. But what gets me is my entire forum is experiencing this coding malfunction, as well as me here as well. It doesn't make sense to be a computer issue on my end, though, which is why I'm supremely confused.

EDIT: It worked until I edited it saying that it worked, and then the size tags duplicated themselves.
EDIT2: And when I clicked submit to enter my edit, it corrected itself... Oh Lordy-Lord, I'm so confused.

So you are saying it is doing it on your forum and now here on the support forum to?
may be you need a new mouse? or check your mouse settings? i mean it cant be anything wrong here on forumotions end if it is doing it to you here on support to. because no one else is experiencing this here. so i am not sure what it could be but has to be something on your end.

Try to to a system restore back to a time and date before this start happening and see if that works. Other then that i know from the past a couple times my mouse got old it was doing funny things such as double clicking by it self or what not. but other then that i am not sure what or could be?

Let me stress that I'm not the only one it's happening to. As for on the support forum, it seems like I am, however, it's happening to other members on my Forum.

And by that I don't mean I'm the only one seeing the errors. I mean other members are posting and their codes are being duplicated as well.

And the thing is I'm not clicking the code. I'm writing it out using letters and brackets, not using the editor provided.

Have you modified the new text editor in any way?

I have not, no.
I think one of the other Admins mentioned another Admin attempting to change Forumotion Code to make it similar to ProBoards, as ProBoards went through an update and their BBC is duplicating. However, I heard two different things (ie: he has and he hasn't)

I've also heard Forumotion did an update recently trying to be more like ProBoards, but I don't much believe that. I'm just so confused over this lol.

And just to double check, I attempted to write BBC Code on another computer and my friend's computer and it duplicated itself.

The problem is, we all are using the bbcode here on this forum & none of us are facing what you are saying. Hence, i am assuming that you are doing something wrong.
If you want, you can provide me a test account for your forum & i will try posting there.

Sure thing.
The Account is (removed) and the password is (removed).

We have templates in varying areas, though if you could (as to not confuse the members) use those templates with coding and test them through Personal Messaging with me. My account is Ichigenka Shuken.

http://wretchesandkings.forumotion.com/ and that is the site.

Or, if you'd prefer not to look for the templates, you can really just write your coding, as it messes up like that as well. Even simple codes like Bold will get duplicated.

When I posted my message and then edited it, there was no duplicate code:

Before -
Code:
[b]Testing[/b]

 After -
Code:
[b]Testing[/b]

If you are using templates, check them to see if they are not messed up.

So that you know this is an incorrect BBCode, even using double bold it will not make it even more bold Wink

Code:
[font=georgia][size=10][b]Hello, everyone! Welcome![/font][b][b][b][b][b][/size][/b]

You don't have almost all of your Bold BBcodes closed off so none of them will actually work...

CORRECT:
Code:
[b][font=georgia][size=10]Hello, everyone! Welcome![/font][b][/b][b][b][/b][/size][/b]

You should probably write your bbcodes correctly before wondering what is going on... I'll list the issues wrong with this code

INCORRECT AND WHY:

Code:
[font=georgia][size=10][b]//you opened the bbcode and never close it
Hello, everyone! Welcome!//here is where the other bbcode should be closed
[/font]

[b][b][b][b][b]//all of these bold bbcodes are opened with no closing!

[/size][/b]//you have your closing bbcode for bold here and this is also incorrect

Mr.EasyBB that is not the issue.  He is saying that when someone post this:
Code:
[b]Testing[/b]
Then when you edit the post, this is how it looks:
Code:
[b][b]Testing[/b][/b]

And I think I made it fairly clear that I'm not the one who is adding the additional coding. I know it won't be extra bold. The thing is that it's not me who is adding all of the extra coding. It does it on its own.

I hope the italics code I just posted doesn't mess up eventually.

When I tested it on your forum, it did not duplicate the BBCode I added.  Which mode are you in when this occurs:  WYSIWYG or normal?

Well you need to answer a few question:

1. Which Browser are you using
2. Which Mode are you in
3. Have you added any codes targeting the textarea
4. Is your mouse over sensitive lol

I ask in all seriousness though, I know what I am doing as I've been working on the SCEditor and have done quite a bit with it so far.

I actually just read the info about the new editor, and I'm wondering if that isn't what's causing the issues. The page explaining it does mention that there are some bugs, so I'm wondering if it's not an internal error that occurs here and there or something, because it doesn't happen every time.

1. Firefox (also used Chrome and IE to check)
2. I did both. What you see is what you get and manual input.
3. I have not.
4. It is not.

Ok, so then since you've tried with all browsers we can take that out of the equation, then as well as then WYSIWYG and Switch Mode, No codes targeting the textareas/bbcodes and no over sensitive mouse. Could you possibly provide me with a test account and your url and I will try to replicate the issue at hand to provide some sort of suggestion.
