Navigate your way to..

Admin Panel > Display > Homepage > Headers and Navigation

Find 'Page headers' then tick 'no' for 'Display only images in the navbar' and save. Afterwards you will need to remove the images displayed for the navbar in pics management.

Try putting this in your CSS.

Code:
.mainmenu {
  font-weight: bold;
  position: relative;
  bottom: 10px;
}
If it needs adjustment modify 'bottom' with positive or negative values.

For font size overwrite the last CSS code I gave you with this one. (You can also just copy and add 'font-size: 12px;' to it too.)

Code:
.mainmenu {
  font-size: 12px;
  font-weight: bold;
  position: relative;
  bottom: 10px;
}

For removing faq/calendar try the code below.

Code:
.mainmenu[href="/faq"], .mainmenu[href="/calendar"] {
  display: none;
}

EDIT:

I noticed an error in my code above, use the one posted by SLG below.

That's weird..

Try this instead then:

Code:
.mainmenu[href="/faq"], .mainmenu[href="/calendar"] {
  visibility: hidden;
  margin: -35px;
}

Modify the value of 'margin: -35px;' try...about -20px, if not you can always remove that snippet.
