Solved Issue with Domain Name (Need Help)

Post by Hardcore Gamer on August 3rd 2013, 3:14 pm

Hi,

I had a domain name through Forumotion one time, I let it run out, then I used it on Namecheap.com (another domain name place). Now, at this current time it says the domain name is expired. But, when I go through Forumotion control panel to buy that domain name again it says it's in use or something. Why is this? Even though I got a email from Namecheap.com about it expiring two days ago.

Still cannot purchase this domain name even though it's already expired on Namecheap.com.

When a domain name expires, their is a period of time when the domain name isn't re-purchasable and it goes into a period of administration so even though it is expired on NameCheap.com then you'll likely find it won't be available for a period of time.

Can you not try and re-purchase through NameCheap.com?

Thanks for the reply. How long does it usually take until I can purchase the domain name through Forumotion?

Yeah, I can re-purchase it through Name Cheap but why would I do that? If I did, is there a way for a Forumotion forum to use that domain name from Name Cheap?

New to this kinda stuff.

If a domain name was in use and recently then it can take up to one year to be available through Forumotion due to it going into a period of administration.

Also this tutorial maybe of interest to you. http://help.forumotion.com/t7021-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board

I've never used Namecheap.com so I'm not entirely sure how the process would work on Namecheap, you'd probably have to ask them for some details if you're unsure.

Tutorial doesn't help, Name Cheap is a whole different layout. I don't understand the above.

To put it simple for others that might check this thread out, that could help:

I have a domain name with Name Cheap that I'm going to renew through them, but have a Forumotion forum that I want to use the Name Cheap domain name on. How do I do this? I looked at this thread - http://help.forumotion.com/t109673-custom-domain-problem - and that doesn't help one bit.

Appreciate any help. I seriously need this done, I've considered passing up on it but just cannot. I plan to bump this every 24-hours because I'm pretty much desperate at this point.

Thanks.

Thanks, but Derri posted that above and I still don't understand it. I've got the domain name ready (bought) but I cannot follow the above. Name Cheap has a different layout and I'm not sure what is what.

This on the other hand I understand, well, a little bit - http://help.forumotion.com/t109673-custom-domain-problem

But when I tried followed it all, didn't work. It's not a full tutorial.

That is only for domain names bought through Forumotion. We can not really help you with another domain host set up.

Why'd the above member get help, then? Same situation as me, is it not?

I've done the above in that link and I get the same error in that thread. Oh yeah, and this is indeed Forumotion related. You don't just change a few things around on Name Cheap account and it's all fixed on my Forumotion forum. I have to change things around in the control panel of my Forumotion forum for this personalized domain name to actually work.

I think what SLGray was meaning when he said the above (and forgive me SLGray if I've misinterpreted what you meant) Is that because none of us are particularly know how namecheap domains are configured to then work on a Forumotion Forum that we can't provide help. I mean I've read the tutorial SLGray and myself linked and with each domain company they have a different method of how they set up a domain name.

As you can see from the link you provided about this other person receiving help, they provided screenshots and detailed information of the layout they had in front of them.

Like you said Namecheap has an entirely different layout from the tutorial above and thus unless someone here knows the layout and how namecheap works then we can't really help you. Have you tried contacting namecheap for help configuring a domain name and then asking questions here, based off of the information namecheap has given you?

(p.s LeeLoo is no longer with Forumotion and therefore can't provide advice.)

I don't know what to do now. Sucks that LeeLoo is no longer around, it really does.

I have the domain name configured on Name Cheap (properly, I think), now it needs to be setup through the forums control panel - which I do not know how to do. I get that error in the above link.

So, nobody can really help even though that this part I'm stuck on is through my Forumotion forums control panel?

Already done that. Dunno what is up. LeeLoo did something to fix up that domain name error that I'm getting now but she didn't state it in the thread how she solved it. Damn.

It could be that right after or before it expired someone else booked it.
