In progress Downloads section

Post by cristv on August 3rd 2013, 5:03 pm

Hello, I'm asking this question because I haven't found an answer on the control panel of my forum.

Does the forum allows a section where you can put links to download pretty much anything? such as links to wallpapers, icons, software, etc? not talking about upload it to the forum server, i mean a display where forum memeners can see the links i offer.

Just by creating a topic, and put all the contents there, or seperately (depends on you). That's the only way to do it.Smile

no, that is for attachments or posts, what i want to do is a place where the members of my forum can download patches, free software, wallpapers, icons, etc, things like that, its a page where you can find all you need, this does not means that forumotion will host the files, but we should host it on personal servers and we should be able to create the links on the forum for members to download, that is the download section for.

Try creating a html page on html management: (then set the following):
-Do you wish to use your forum header and footer: Yes
- Use this as homepage: No

Then put now the contents on the 'HTML Source' part, then click the preview for you to see the output. Then save. Smile

These downloads will have to be created by the members of your forum. You can not post any downloads even if they are free.

What? Even free mixtapes released on Datpiff.com (a LEGAL music website where artists like Lil Wayne and his label release free music to the fans?) and I cannot post a a link to that page on a forum I own? That doesn't make sense.

That's what Datpiff.com IS, artists release free music on there that just didn't cut it for albums so they make FREE-2-DOWNLOAD mixtapes so that fans can post around on forums. I cannot post links like that even though that's what the artists and label want, along with the Datpiff website?

EDIT: I understand that you cannot post torrents and other illegal downloads to music, TV shows, ect. on your own forum. But, the above ISN'T the same. Not even close.

i agree, what i'm referring is legal free software, my forum is a gaming community, we also own dedicated servers, and administrating this servers requires software such as rcon tools, which are totally free, and legal, besides maps, patches, etc, that is my main intention with a download section on the forum.

I think that with the proper guidelines, this section should be added to the supported options on the forumotion platform.....just saying

btw, nice improvements on the mobile platform, I like it a lot

Please don't double/triple post. Your post need to be separated by 24 hours before bumping, replying or adding more information. Please use the edit button instead!

Yes they are free to DOWNLOAD, but not to DISTRIBUTE. Posting a link to another site to download something is fine, unless the site does not have permission to have the downloads.
