Solved How can I post on my forum link to redirect users to other Forumotion sites?

Post by Kadreyah on August 30th 2013, 10:16 pm

Good evening!

I would like to ask Forumotion Staff how I can post on my forum links of other Forumotion sites to redirect users to these sites? Can be post as a widget with link and picture or must be done in another way?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Have a wonderful evening!

Hello Kadreyah,

If you're referring users to other forums which are similar or are your affiliates, you should make use of the affiliate widget.

Navigate to:
Administration Panel > Modules > Portal & Widgets > Forum widgets management

If you haven't activated the forum widgets be sure to tick 'yes' for 'display forum widgets' and put 180px on the side you wish for the widgets to display and save. Scroll down and click personal widgets, drag the affiliates widget to either the right or left column and save.

You can then modify the contents of the widget by clicking the edit(Edit) button. The setup of an image affiliate would look something like this:
Code:
<a href="http://help.forumotion.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i72.servimg.com/u/f72/18/45/41/65/fmsafi10.png" alt="Forumotion Support" title="The Forum of the Forums"></a>
You can use the above to get an idea of how it works and experiment with the code if you wish. If you need any additional help feel free to ask. Wink

Hello SethC and thank you for your fast reply!

I did as you said and I used the code from you (especially that I already have a widget made with site Forumotion, but none with direct link to the Help desk here; so it was perfect the code for this one).

But, when I wanted to use the code to set up another widget box for other sites, it worked until one point where I blocked: I don't know how to change the picture there in your code (I changed everything else the link to the site, the name, but when it is about the picture - I don't know how to manage with the code of the picture.

I tried to use with download from Photobucket (I don t make no commercial hope none will accuse me of this) and to use the codes from there - nothing worked! The picture must be a thumbnail or at least small to not out from the align of the site (I care about these things much)... really, I need help because I am stuck while I tried already!

Thank you so much for your help!

You will modify this portion of the code to change the image:
Code:
<img src="IMG SOURCE" alt="ALT NAME" title="TITLE">
Your image url will be placed in the src, or src="content here"
The content displayed when the image cannot be displayed is alt, or alt="Forum Support"
Finally the title, or title="title context" is the content displayed when a user hovers their mouse over the object

I've modified the image source above to give you an idea, the image must be placed between the href attribute (<a>) for it to become a link.
