In progress New PM email notification

Post by ginedive on September 7th 2013, 3:43 pm

I've noticed that the members of our forum no longer receive email notification for new PM messages, though they have chosen the option.
This problem only affect members who haven't visited the forum for quite a long time. I logged in as a different user (one of the users who didn't receive the notifications), and then logged out without changing the settings for that account. Than I sent a new message to that user, as administrator, and this time the notification was regularly received. What's the problem preventing lazy users from receiving notifications? Any suggestion?

There has been an update that changed some of these features. Have your members check the notifications tab in their profiles.

Of course not. This problem affect precisely those who haven't been on the forum for quite a long time. And it's hard to tell them to log in and check their profile, because they don't receive any email alert when I send them a message! They have all chosen to receive email notifications for new PM, but now I know that they don't receive any notification. It's a very annoying problem.

This only solve the problem if they have chosen to allow newsletters, I think. And several didn't. I hope there's a solution, I don't want to lose contact with them.

Are you sure that they are not receiving the emails? It could be that they do not want to visit your forum.

I doubt this is happening at all, you have not presented any "proof" only speculation. some of your members probably have a different email address now or never signed up with a real one. In any case the problem you say forumotion has with not sending emails has not been shown as fact.

Please, don't be so aggressive. This is not a trial, and I don't have to present "proofs". I'm only asking for help, and expected a friendly reply, not necessarily a solution. You are not very supportive, indeed.
Anyway, these are not speculation. I sent PM, and the notifications were not received. Other members sent PM too, and the same happened.
Besides, I was able to log in as a different user (who didn't receive notifications), and then logged out. After this intervention, the notification arrived regularly. These are the facts, no speculations.

Unless the members tell you that they have not received the emails, it is speculation.

After your reply, I've sent emails to some members, asking if they had received the notifications for the previous PMs. They confirm that they didn't receive any notification and were not aware of the last PMs sent by me and by other members.
I think I have to send emails to everybody and ask them to check their profile. Hoping this will solve the problem.

Hi there,

Just to let you know, the Devs are aware of the issue, and have been studying the bug since roughly July 24 2013
The bug ID is 3056.

There's nothing I can suggest to temporarily help out, other then suggest an email, and create a new thread in your news/announcements section, or a global announcement.
