Problem with widgets changing locations

Post by Raijin_Tsukino on September 21st 2013, 1:54 am

I'm not even sure that's the best way to describe it; but that's what screencaps are for, right? The site founder pointed this out to me earlier today, and I'm having problems even figuring out if it's broken coding or what the base problem is. I am not a very experienced coder or anything like that; I freely admit this.

What happening is, the sidebar widgets are wrapping around the bottom of the pages that are still empty. As we've only just started the building of the forum, nearly every subform and page is very short; and this warping is making the widgets break on top of move (see: Affiliates at the very bottom). If anyone can even give me ideas of where to start, I'd be very greatful. Any help that can be given is very much appreciated.

Can you please post a link to your forum of where this is occurring?

Sorry, i'd thought the screen caps would give a good idea. It's basically the same everywhere, though. Basic example of a problem page would be:

http://talesofthebenders.forumotion.com/f5-events

Any page were the content of the body stretch below the widgets has no problems, as you can see here:

http://talesofthebenders.forumotion.com/t2-general-rules

Again, the forum is very new and not finished being built; so I don't have a lot to show yet unforntuately.

May I ask you to remove your Affiliates and Staff widgets from the forum widgets temporarily? One of those has to be the problem because I've cleared the left, right, and both sides so no elements will float to that space, but every time the affiliates widget stays where it is.

Remove the two I stated above(temporarily) to see if they are causing an issue, perhaps it may be an error in the markup of those widgets?

...And it doesn't surprise me that it was one of those two causing it; they're the only ones with any custom/special coding. The odd part is, I have the EXACT base code used in both those widgets; sans the images in the Staff one, used on my active Naruto site, and have never had any trouble at all. In fact, the affiliate widget was a placeholder containing directly copied code just for a visual reference. Forgive me for likely asking a very stupid question, but what exactly is the markup of a widget? Very much not familiar with common terms in reference to coding and the like. @@;;

That is good, if I'm correct I believe the staff widget may be the problem. The affiliate widget looked fine on inspection, but you can never be too sure. If you feel like it just add them one at a time to see which is the cause. Wink

As for markup HTML is a 'markup language' which is commonly used however, there's a number of markup languages.

Hmm... Alright, I'll reset the code from the working copies I have and see if it works. Thank you very much for the help!

It was indeed the Staff Widget. I'm going to find someone better with code to create a different one for me. Thank you so very much.~
