Link Direction Through An Invisible Forum

Post by ilo on September 27th 2013, 4:44 am

Hey all,
It seems that this function is not available I will try and explain it a bit so you can see what I mean than hopefuly get some ideas from others here.

OK, first what I want to do is make some Links here:

Those links there to direct me to an "Forum" (every Link into a specific Forum)
but I dont want the Forum or the Category to show on the Home Page

When someone clicks Link 1 or Link 2..: Members to be directed straight inside the forum or blog, like this:

So do you guys think its possible??

Is this a suggestion or a support question?

Hey SLGray,
I am not sure if I'm able to do that
I guess I made it as an suggestion since I couldn't make that type of functionality work.

For a suggestion, you need to add a poll.

There might be a way to hide the categories and forums with a code.

There is:
CSS
Code:
.forabg {
    display: none;
}

SLGray
Can I only hide a specific Forum Or Category from the Main Home Page,
Will It be Visible If given the link straight into it?

The code it working SLGray,
but it is hiding the rest of the categories

I was wondering If I could hide a specific Category or Forum, from members.

Using the nth child it is possible however, you should know that this pseudo selector isn't supported in IE8 or earlier.

This one should hide your category "The Link"
Code:
div.forabg:nth-child(8)/*The Link Category*/{
display:none;
}
This one should hide your category "News Feed"
Code:
div.forabg:nth-child(9)/*News Feed Category*/{
display:none;
}
The only issue with this method is sometimes your child elements may change Identities, or modify elements of another page with the same identity.

Hey SethC,
Thank you, your always helping me Smile

That's really interesting I haven't tried it yet but I certainly will,
I am not going to hide the News Feed but I am going to make a new category that will probably contain 3 forums in it,

Maybe If I make a complex name of the category than there will not be any confusions...
as for IE, I'm not sure, if it doesn't hide on IE to, than I doubt that Ill use the code. Now days allot of people have Win8 and they don't change the web browser.
Is there another code for both browsers?

I am really trying to make the forum look professional Very Happy

As long as the viewers of your forum are using Internet Explorer 9+ nth child should work correctly. All other major browsers support nth child as well.

SethC
It works fine and no it doesn't work on IE8 but oh well...

I made a new category with an introduction Forum for Membeers
so now the Category with the Forum is hiden from the Home Board from guests and members but the Link is shown as Introduce Yourself on the Home Message (that you can Modify).
Very Happy
