Hello LightingStorm,
If you want some tips for editing/making themes for your forum this would be a good read:
https://help.forumotion.com/t47086-skin-style-and-aesthetics-guidelines
Another thing you can do(if you haven't yet) is you could start reading up on CSS. Utilizing the stylesheet to style your forum can really make it pop and stand out from other forums. I would recommend this site for studying CSS:
http://www.w3schools.com/css/
I would also suggest placing your forums in multiple categories rather than being bunched up together in one.
You could do it like this: (I'm going by your forums)
Category: Art/Graphics
Forums: All graphic forums
Category: General
Forum: Things like introductions and general discussion
For structure and hierarchy I would recommend using split categories medium. This helps keep subforums hidden(unless you show sublevel links which is perfect) so your overall forum view isn't messy. If you want to do that you can do that by going to:
Admin Panel > Display > Homepage > Structure and hierarchy
I think that's everything, if you have any questions let us know.
