We have guests viewing closed groups and members only sub-forums. I have checked everything two or three times in General/Categories and Forums, and in button permissions and guests should not be able to view anything other than the log in page, but we keep on seeing that they do.

Hello Elcee,

The forum may say the guests are viewing these forums, but so long as the permissions are set correctly they should be met with a login screen.

It will only display this because they are at that link, but are unable to view any of its content. I have an example below:

I have hidden the rules on my forum to guests temporarily, and had another browser open to test this. On the other browser which was not logged in I was met with this screen:

Guests viewing closed groups Captur11

However, it will display that the guest may be viewing that forum, but they really are unable to view any of that content so long as your permissions are set correctly.

That explanation would be feasible IF the log in screen contained all the categories and forums available, but it does not. The log in screen only shows one category.
There are another nine categories with forums and sub-forums in them that guests should not know even exist. It is in one of these categories that the guests are appearing. How can they register as being in a category when they should not know the category is there?

I found what I thought was a possible explanation in another topic. Someone suggested that a member was in a closed group and logged out, but I tried that and my admin partner checked the admin panel and it did not show me as a guest in the closed group.

Why is this in the suggestion section?

Even if you have areas hidden from guests, they can still locate the areas by the links. If you have it set up correctly, they will only see the log in boxes, but with the links to the hidden areas.

I must have posted the new topic when I was searching for an answer to my problem.

How can guests locate areas by links? There are no links to hidden areas on the log in page.

No it wasn't that topic. But I did read through all the posts there, and noticed this one

Have you checked their IP? Usually I see Guest(s) at my forum. I use DSL for my net service and those IPs belong to server farms--not Members. If any of your Members are using DSL and/or a mobile device, you will see Guest server farms listed.
The Ip address of the one guest that we checked was in a European country. As we have only ever noticed Google and MSN as bots, are they in Europe? They're IP addresses have only ever shown as in the US.

This is still happening. We have a guest in a closed group. Why does this happen and how can we fix it?
