Changing flood control to 30 sec

Post by luiz1877 on December 13th 2013, 2:46 am

I many times get annoyed with having to wait because i saw a misspelling after i posted. It is currently at 50 sec but i thing it should be 30.

I'm on the fence on this one. My main reason for not agreeing full heartedly is spam.

While we haven't had massive spam attacks in the last month or so we have had them within the last couples months where 5-10+ threads were created. 50 seconds is reasonable because how often do you jump from thread to thread and make posts that 50 seconds doesn't pass?

I do occasionally get hit with the flood limit but overall it didn't really annoy me. The reason the 50 second edit time exists (which is built into flood control and you can't disable one without the other) is imagine if someone made a regular old posts and then decided to start editing all of his posts and add porn links or something like that, you could quickly have 50 plus posts edited without anyone even noticing whereas this is less likely to happen if you have flood control.

I understand it really can be annoying but has been worse in the past, at one point it was 200 seconds and even 300 seconds, so 50 seconds isn't all that bad Razz

I think due to the spam bots, you really need to do this.

Is flood control a big issue at most forums?

Mine is set for 120 seconds and after reading this I need to probably change it.

It seems we have upset some of the members at my place.

Thanks for this thread.

A few moments later: I cannot find the flood control in the admin panel. Can someone direct me to the spot?

After searching the admin panel I did find where to reset the flood control. It is now set at 30 seconds.

Thank you.

So it should be 10 seconds instead of 30?

Hello

I usually make some spelling mistakes or forget a detail in my posts so i have this f***** option annoying me quite often.

But i also read what Derri wrote and i think it means this forum needs those 50 seconds, so i vote No even if i dislike this fllod control.

Hi Very Happy

I personally think that the flood control is vital. Especially with all the random posts by the 'bot' or whatever that provides HTML. It at least slows down the problem a bit for any staff to delete it promptly.

Besides, it helps us think a little longer before we post solutions to problems Smile .

Voted no.

Hi!

As everyone has said, this option serves anti flood not that unwanted members post messages that don't want nothing to say for most subsequently ^^

Agreed ! it takes more time to warm a cup of hot coffee or tea!
I also agree that the waiting is sometimes annoying, but 5/6th of a minute is really acceptable No ? Wink
