Lock a topic so it doesn't count towards members post count

Post by Guest on February 23rd 2008, 5:31 pm

First topic message reminder :

I've seen this feature on smf forums.
It should be able to be implemented on phpbb.

Yeah it is! I just were again on another forum and was so jealous they can make a Chat section with games which doesn't increase the post count.

Man, we really want it! WANT, WANT, WANT IT!!!!!!

i vote yes i have seen this on a lot of forums and it works well i have some of my forums that i would like to stop the count on as its a part where the chatter can talk about anything they like and it is really only spam in there so to stop the count in your forum would be cool

Voted YES!!
Seriously need this option to turn off post count for a certain topic after witnessing a member spam more than 100 posts within hours just for the sake of getting a higher ranking.

Re: Lock a topic so it doesn't count towards members post count

Post by Guest on October 15th 2008, 4:22 pm

I voted yes. (Others have pretty much given the reasons why.)

As for those that have complained about posters merely posting 'LOL'; 'Yea'; '~insert unintelligible comment here~'... as site admin you always have the same option as I do.. delete the post... which will lower their post count. And if you're too busy or don't have the heart to do it, then get yourself a mod that does. rambo

Re: Lock a topic so it doesn't count towards members post count

Post by Vito on November 30th 2008, 8:55 pm

I'm not sure what the OP is proposing, exactly. We can already lock topics, and then no one can post to those threads; so, it's already true that there's no way for anyone's post count to increase in a locked topic.

Is the proposal for a feature wherein, if a topic were locked, all the posts in a specific thread (topic) would be subtracted from the post counts of all the users who posted to that thread? I guess that might be useful, but it sounds like it might be tricky to implement it.

What would be far more useful would be the feature that zinex proposed. After reading all the comments in this thread, it actually sounds like that's the feature people want the most. Best of all, that feature already has been validated and released for phpBB3 software as the Hide Post-Count Mod. It just needs to be implemented by the Forumotion team, provided there's sufficient user support for it.

There are already two other polls in which you can vote for that feature:

  • Disabling post count on a particular board? – The question is well stated and you know exactly what you're voting on.

  • No post count – There's lots of confusion in this poll because of the way the question is stated, but it seems to be addressing the same issue that everyone wants—namely, the ability for an admin to decide whether post counts should be enabled or disabled on any given forum.
It seems that everyone who voted "Yes" in this poll would vote "Yes" in each of the two polls linked above.

I voted no. I really dont see the point why this is needed. So what if they post in that certain area ? If they are interested in it, i cant see anything bad here. Just make sure they dont spam.
