Solved Ranks system using points

Post by Phyrexian December 23rd 2013, 3:15 pm

Okay, so I am creating a forum and I want to include ranks, but from my previous experiences on various forums, ranks often encourage useless posts on forums. I want to ranks to use the points system instead of the posts system, to try to encourage useful posts. The thing I like about the points system is that I can also add/remove points from a user if I feel like they have too many or too few. But I don't know how to change the way the ranking system works to make it take points into count, not posts... can anyone help me please?

The ranks can only be used with the number of posts you have.

There goes my idea.  :/  Anyway thanks, glad I went to ask people on here instead of messing up the whole forum and then asking for help. Guess that means this one is "solved" now.

If you know how many points there will be you could guess the points by the number of posts.

Ex. If all points are one(1) and you want second rank to change when member has 12 points then you make the rank to change on 12 messages.. If u have 2 points, goes to 6 messages etc etc..

That is the only way you could do this. Else i guess its only by codes.

Won't work because for example starting a topic counts for more than a reply, and a new topic or a reply counts for more or less in diffrent sections of the forum... oh well, I'll just mention it in the forum rules that ranks are there to encourage useful posts and topics, not spam...
