Solved help with transparency on forum (to see background picture)

Post by Leangreen99 on January 15th 2014, 12:45 am

Hello! I want to make all of my forum stuff a little transparent so I can see the background of the forum. How do I do that? The topics I found with people who have the same problem didn't help me very much. It included using HTML but I don't know how to edit the HTML of my page to allow some parts of my forum to be transparent.

Hello ,

If you want to adjust the transparency of your entire forum you can add this to your CSS :
AP > Display > Colors > CSS stylesheet
Code:
body {
opacity:0.9;
filter:alpha(opacity=90);
}

You can adjust the value before and after the decimal. The highest being 1.0, and the lowest being 0.0. The second is a fallback for older browser versions like IE. The highest for that being 100 and lowest being 0.

Adjust those to the level of opacity you wish.

How can I make only certain elements on my page transparent? This makes everything on my forum transparent including the text and other things.

It depends on what you want to be transparent. What would you like transparent, specifically ?

It would also be best if you posted your forum url so we can use the proper selectors as well.

Everywhere it is white so only the boxes with text in them (I'm not sure what to call them) are not transparent.

It still makes everything on the forum transparent. How can I specify in the code what I want to be transparent?

Replace that one with this:
Code:
#wrap {
      background-color: none;
        }

It's still changing the transparency of everything on my forum. I want to know how to change specific objects on my forum.

It is only changing the #wrap when I visit the forum. The text on the #wrap will need to be changed.

Let me try again. What exactly do I need to put in the HTML box to make only the white areas of my forum transparent? I'm a little confused.

CSS not HTML

Administration Panel > Display > Colors & Pictures > Colors
CSS Stylesheet Tab
Code:
#wrap {
        opacity:0.9;
        filter:alpha(opacity=90);
        }

CSS, oops. I get them mixed up.

I put in that exact code and it is still changing the transparency of everything on the forum.

You can use RGBA to adjust the transparency of your background color.

adding that should add transparency to white :
change 0.7 to adjust the transparency
Code:
#wrap { background:rgba(255,255,255,0.7); }
( a fallback for rgba can be a transparent image )

Additionally if you want the background of the wrap completely without color you can use this CSS :
Code:
#wrap { background:transparent; }

A screenshot of what you want to change specifically though can help since not everything uses the same selector. Wink

Exactly is not changing everywhere. It looks like it is because the text is a light color. How about adding the background image to the wrap?

Code:
#wrap {
      background-image:  url("IMAGE'S URL");
}

Alright, I got it to work! I used:
Code:
#wrap { background:rgba(255,255,255,0.7); }

One more question. I know what I edited here was #wrap, how do I get the name for other things on the website so I can edit them as well?

On Firefox if you right click an area and press Inspect Element, you can see the selector ID's.
