Solved Usurpation of abandoned domain?

Post by PtolemyHalcali on February 10th 2014, 11:19 pm

Hello,

I'm an admin of a group creating a new community with the assistance of a forumotion forum. We have just decided on an official name and had hoped to change our domain name to match it, however the domain which we would like to use is already taken. Normally this wouldn't be an issue and we'd take something else, however the domain in question has been abandoned since 2009 and has (as far as we can tell) only had two posts in it's history.

Would it be possible to usurp the forum domain? Thanks in advance for the consideration.

Are you referring to a domain name, like .com or .net, or a regular address, like .forumotion.com?

Well then you get only get that address if the forum that has that address is deleted. It will not be deleted just because you want that address.

So the fact that is has been abandoned for over 4 years is of no consequence?

Correct. The founder is the only one that can delete the forum. It could still be active by members just logging onto the forum.

It has three members, the last logged on Sunday May 3rd 2009 and one of them has never logged on.

But, if that is forumotion policy, I understand. Disappointed, but understanding.
