Help with Deletion
I deleted my forum earlier today and had to restore it again as I had forgotten to take down some information. It will not now let me delete it, as it will not allow me to log in! The forum is still "live". Please help.
Edit to correct initial post - I decided to keep the forum but do a name change and will return to it when family illness allow.

Hi,
When you restore a forum the password changes to that which you access the forum utilities with. Have you tried that password?

Re: Help with Deletion
This is common,
What to do is. Go to delete your forum, type delete in capitals etc. Don't go off the page once you've hit the button
Then open a new tab.
Go to your email
Select the email and click the link.
This should allow you to delete your forum.

Re: Help with Deletion
I have done this at least 5 times now and it still takes me to the admin panel when I click to validate deletion.

Re: Help with Deletion
Can you tell me if its possible to change the "url" of the forum to another name? If so, then I will gladly keep it and go back to working my forum when family illnesses allow me to.

Re: Help with Deletion
Yes you can change the address
ACP --> General --> Forum Address.
You can change it and also change the ending as well.

Re: Help with Deletion
I've done that Derri but when I type into my browser the OLD name of my forum it takes me directly to the new url which I've entered into ACP / /General / Forum address. Why does that happen?

Re: Help with Deletion
Because for a time being I believe that the old address is still linked to the forum to allow members to visit the forum from the old address.
I don't know how long this lasts though. But if your new address is changed and you can access the forum with the new address then I wouldn't worry.

Re: Help with Deletion
I understand, however, I wanted completely rid of the old name as I don't want a previous administrator to be able to see my new work.

Just one quick question to rule out any issues.
You don't have a custom domain name do you?

Re: Help with Deletion
Thanks,
Could you provide me either here or by PM your old address and your new address.
I'll report this to our pro admin and hopefully she'll be able to stop the redirection. I'm afraid though, it'll be Monday before you'll get a reply as our Pro Admin doesn't work weekends.

Re: Help with Deletion
If you just changed the address then the old address will redirect for some time. It should not do it for a long time (maybe a day).

Actually SLG it does go on for awhile. I recently changed my regular domain name and then I typed my old one and I'm still redirecting so I think it varies.

Re: Help with Deletion
I've received a confirmation email of the change from the Board but I will wait until Monday to see what they say about the auto-redirection. Meantime I've put it into maintenance mode. Thanks for help.

Re: Help with Deletion
Hello,
For the meantime, I suggest you to resync your forum, it may fix some bugs and hopefully remove the old to new address redirection:

If that doesn't work, we can wait for the pro admin.

Re: Help with Deletion
Hello
Even if you change your forum url, the old url will always work.
Actually, you have a forum with URL A, you change it into URL B, A will point to B except if your Forum URL becomes C. In that case, B point to C and not to A.
Am I clear?

Re: Help with Deletion
You are....strange that I was told it would take "maybe a day" for it to stop redirection. So ... now my plan is to change it (only slightly) to "C", are you guaranteeing me that if someone types in url "A" it will not redirect to the new (slightly changed) url "C"?? Thanks for your help, I await in anticipation.

Re: Help with Deletion
I have done as you suggested as above and now the forum is in name "C" (see your post above).
It takes me to the new name but I have the FIRST (now deleted name) name in my browser, if I have it, then so will everyone else. Will you please sort this out. What is the point of being able to change the forum name when the old name appears in the browser. I have followed your instructions and now its had 2 name changes but the old name still persists!
