Solved How To Put The Menu Above The Banner & Hide Links

Post by perfectSTORM! on March 2nd 2014, 4:54 pm

Hello again SmileI just wanted to know how to put the menu like:

"Home Portal FAQ Search..."

Above the image banner, if that's possible, and then how do I hide links, like I didn't want them to show? I use PHPBB2, all of my links are in Text, not images, and my site is here:

http://www.bloodandfire.forumotion.com

Thanks,

Tony

Solved Re: How To Put The Menu Above The Banner & Hide Links

Post by Pizza Boi on March 3rd 2014, 2:13 pm

Hi Very Happy

After trying so many codes x_x, I finally found the solution. Anyway, in your templates, I want you to access overall_header and find this bit of code:

Code:
<table>
  <tr>
  <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
  </tr>
  </table>

And change it to this:

Code:
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="right" style="margin-top: -330px; left: width: 35%; position: relative; right: 110px; font-weight: bold;">
  <tr>
  <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
  </tr>
  </table>

The one I put in bold should be modified to your liking, also, if you do not want, you can change align="right" to align="middle" as well as the left thing, you can just remove that portion.

Hope it helps!

Regards,
Pizza Boi

Edit: I forgot cancels out other BBC codes... anyway, the one I meant in [b] is -330. Change it to your liking please.

I do not think relative positioning, or negative margin is necessary. You should be able to take the generated navbar and place it above the logo and sitename table.

Administration Panel > display > templates > general > overall_header

Find and delete :
Code:
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="{MENU_POSITION}">
 <tr>
 <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
 </tr>
 </table>

Find :
Code:
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
 <tr>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_left -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_left -->
 <td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle">
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_center -->
 <a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a>
 <br />
 <!-- END switch_logo_center -->
 <div class="maintitle">{MAIN_SITENAME}</div>
 <br />
 <span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span>
 </td>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_right -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_right -->
 </tr>
 </table>

Replace by :
Code:
<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="{MENU_POSITION}">
 <tr>
 <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
 </tr>
 </table>
 <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
 <tr>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_left -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_left -->
 <td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle">
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_center -->
 <a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a>
 <br />
 <!-- END switch_logo_center -->
 <div class="maintitle">{MAIN_SITENAME}</div>
 <br />
 <span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span>
 </td>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_right -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_right -->
 </tr>
 </table>

Then save and publish the template.

To hide links you could use CSS,

par example :
Code:
a.mainmenu[href="/faq"] { display:none; }

The CSS above will hide the menu item which has the pathname of /faq.

Ange Tuteur, your solution to my first problem with the menu placement has worked SmileHowever, the second solution has not. I just added this to the bottom of my CSS:

Code:
a.mainmenu[href="/faq"] { display:none; }
a.mainmenu[href="/gallery"] { display:none; }
a.mainmenu[href="/calendar"] { display:none; }

Again my forum's link is: http://bloodandfire.forumotion.com/

Add it to the top of your stylesheet, if the bottom is not working your sheet may contains errors. If the top does not work, make the declaration important.

ex :
selector { display:none !important; }
