Should phpbb2 be updated or not?
Update on phpbb2 forum version
Hi
We all know that phpbb2 is the most outdated forum version provided by Forumotion, right? Well, we also know that phpbb4 isn't even released yet, right?
So to say, I created this poll so that the staff would think about updating phpbb2 into a less buggy, less general selectors, less outdated forum skin format into a modern, and selector specific forum version
Let's face it, most users prefer phpbb2 because it's easier to use and a lot of codes have been made specifically for it.
On the other hand, we can argue that it's old, but that's not the point. The point is, even the old can be maintained, updated and renewed, and I, as a phpbb2 user would love it if Forumotion would provide a way to update this version so that coding for this forum would be easier and more versatile.
Hope the "yes" would be more than "no" .
Regards,
Pizza Boi

Shouldn't this be in 'Suggestions for your forums' and not the support forum?

Re: Update on phpbb2 forum version
The reason why phpBB 2 is not updated is because new versions are created, like phpBB 3.

Re: Update on phpbb2 forum version
Since phpbb2 has the ability to edit templates, you could in fact add class names, ids, or just redo the entire design. Basically you can think of it as a fixer upper version.
As SLGray said, it is not updated because new versions are created.

Hitskins is where you can get themes for your forums. It is the only place that offers themes for forums hosted by Forumotion.

But the basic code, Javascript and CSS Stylesheet is the same?
Re: Update on phpbb2 forum version
Hi
Still, more people do use it o.O.
And @Ange: I know that, it's just the classification between th stuff in terms of console and template editing is a bit of a hassle, especially if someone doesn't even know how to do it. You can consult the help forum, sure, but it would be awesome for it to be more specified.

Re: Update on phpbb2 forum version
I always use PHPBB2 for some reason. I'm sure its because of its template editing. I need better stuff for BB2.
Re: Update on phpbb2 forum version
Hello ^^
I need templates, i want something less outdated rhan phpBB2, that's the reason why i choosed PunBB
- Templates easier to read
- Lighter code and faster board
- In most cases, easy to make a phpbb2 tutorial working on PunBB

Those guys do not need phpBB2 if they do not know how to use templates. If they look for younger forum's engine they should choose phpBB3 or Invision for their simplicity.Pizza Boi wrote:... template editing is a bit of a hassle, especially if someone doesn't even know how to do it.
