In progress Username is already used

Post by Carambouli on March 21st 2014, 10:49 am

This is just a little thing that was bothering me. I wanted to sign up on a forum with the name 'Daniel' for my character, now the forum said that this username is already used so I went to the memberlist and there were two daniels; One written like this: DaniŽl and one like this: Daniel.

Now this is my little suggestion: I think that the problem here is that the e and the Ž are the same for forummotion, so it thinks that the names are 'the same' but actually, they aren't. Now I wanted to suggest that this changes and that the e isn't the same as the Ž, so that we are able to create a Daniel and a DaniŽl on our forum -same with other names that have a Ž, š, whatever in their names-

Hi Very Happy

I forgot which place in the administration panel it is but there's an option that prevents anyone from registering with common usernames, so there's a possibility that, that forum is using the option so that may be the cause why you can't register as "Daniel".

Besides, I do believe Forumotion can recognize languages considering there are only commands that can be executed in said languages such as Spanish, German, etc.

Hello,

You can fix this at:

1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. General Tab
3. Security (on the left, under Forum)
4. Select 'Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames. : No'

Moved to Other Problems

That kind of isn't what I meant. It has nothing to do with that function because when you normally put a space in front of the name you can just use that common name - since many site owners don't know how to get that common name thing away - but I meant that forummotion thinks a Ž is the same as a normal e, so when there is already a DaniŽl on the forum, you can't create a Daniel, because the name daniel is already in use - while there is no other Daniel on the forum and only another DaniŽl.

Have you check to see if the username is in the inactive list?

Administration Panel > Users & Usergroups > Users > Inactive LIst

Hello. In order to change this, you will need to make sure you have the correct options selected, as I do in this example photo! Smile
