Solved Facebook Like on invision

Post by silverfoxangel on March 24th 2014, 5:10 am

I've been searching for an answer for this one and haven't found one so I'm making a topic. With the new facebook features (which are awesome btw) the "like" button isn't showing up on chrome and chromium based browsers.

I've tested on the following browsers:
Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Chrome
Comodo Dragon (chromium based)
Chrome for mobile devices

The like button works and shows up as designed on ALL browsers but chrome and comodo dragon. I've tried clearing cache, cookies, being logged in as a user, as an admin and coming in as a guest and it does not show.

It's odd that it works on chrome for mobile devices (if you look at the classic view on a smart phone) It doesn't even matter if you're logged in as a user or viewing a forum as a guest.

Yes before you ask all browsers are on the latest versions, no updates needed.

Heres a view from Chrome:

And a view from Firefox

This isn't a super high priority thing as my users usually use the facebook share option on the tool, but we have a good following of fans and it would be nice if they could just like the topic right from our forum instead of having to go to facebook itself to like it.

Maybe invision needs some sort of special code like the PunBB and PhpBB2?

Solved Re: Facebook Like on invision

So aparently one of my users also has chrome and can see the like button. Hmm... I wonder if it's just myself that I cannot see it due to a chrome extension or something.

Will investigate further and update.

UPDATE:

So I believe I found the issue. In Chrome and chrome based browsers most of them have some sort of privacy extension. Either to keep you secure or whatever.

(extensions like privdog, donottrackme, etc)

THESE extensions are the ones that block the like button. If your chrome is running without any fancy security extensions the like button shows up just fine on Invision forums. As soon as you enable those extensions the like button vanishes.

I'll test with any adblocker extensions next.

Second Update:
So I've tested with most common extensions for chrome and chrome based browsers.

theres two extensions that block the like button
PrivDog (allow *forumotion.com in exceptions)
DoNotTrackMe (allow facebook connect)

Any other applications that block trackers must be updated to allow the facebook connect or facebook tracking in your forum. Once that is allowed through the like button shows up and works as designed.

No other code is needed in Invision forums (aside from allowing the facebook connect module) to have the like button show.

Feel free to close this ticket as solved and hopefully it helps other invision users with chrome.
