Solved Points - Reputation - Thanks Button -

Post by Guardian-Angel on March 28th 2014, 2:15 am

Hi everyone

I have read the FAQ and searched Points Reputation Thanks Button, and am still not clear.

What do you do with the points that are being accumulated?

I was looking for a "thanks" icon where posters can thank other users for their posts. I know where it is but I'm not clear on the function. For example, if I post a comment, someone else agree's with me, they click the thank icon.

I don't want any points, or reputation. Similar to this:

Only the starter of the topic can see the thank buttons in the replies. You can only thank one message in a topic.

You can use the points for whatever you want.

I use them as payment for creating whole themes or templates on one of my forums.

Is there a link that explains everything the points can be used for?

I was thinking of a like post icon. This would prevent posters from quoting a post and using a thumbsup smilie, or a yes smilie showing their agreement with the post. If they can click a  like button, it would avoid all the unnecessary quoting.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks, I read those two links which explain in detail how to set it up.

Sorry for being so duh, but I don't understand what you do with the points? I don't see it anywhere telling me how I can use them.

If I wanted a new set of icons, do I ask someone to create them, and use the points as payments? Or am I totally out to lunch?

Is there a gallery that we can choose from to change icons for the board?

Thanks for your patience.

You will have to manually change the points for whatever way you use them.

Thanks, I understand.

What I don't understand what I do with them when I accumulate them.

Say I have 5,000 points, now what? Is there a list somewhere that explains how you can use your points?

There is no official option to use the points.  You just have to decide what to do with them.

It depends on what your forum is about.

Hi Very Happy

Well, if you guys do interviews then you have to pay points for one? I'm not really sure how a Reality TV show forum functions, but if it's things like that then for some rights, or moderation things.

Can you please give me a background on how the forum actually functions so I can draft a little idea?

Here's a few topics on points if you haven't read them yet :

http://help.forumotion.com/t38437-the-points-system

http://help.forumotion.com/t41194-points-shop-ideas

The transactions with points have to be done by administrators in points donation. Subtract an amount of points from one user and add it to another user. You could also start a topic to store the points subtracted from users, if you don't have anyone to give the points to, sorta like a lottery or something.

Thanks Ange - The shop link is what I was looking for. I am not familiar with the point system, and didn't know if it was a virtual thing, or a real shop thing. Thanks again.

Pizza Boi - The forum is comprised of sleuthing, discussions, fan favourite threads. The sleuthing portion, users work on a season while in the filming stages gathering information to predict the outcome of the show. They analyze everything from screencaps taken from TV advertisements, gathering information on the potential contestants, tracking which cities countries they are filming in etc.

Other shows have threads where users watch the show and post online as the show is airing sharing idea's speculation thoughts etc.

Fan forums are positive forums to follow the contestants after the season ends. Posting pics tweets f/book updates etc. on the favourites.

Would say for example a date with the lead of the show cost 1000 points, then they can put that in their signature line or something to that effect? " For 1000 points I had a date with Sean Lowe"

Am I on the right track?

Hi Very Happy

That could work and based from whatever I understood, so your forum is more like uhm, how do I put this, a papparazi forum? If that's the case, why don't you use your points for information for you to join in the gossip or something (I'm really terrible at this type of thing).

Or, if you want, a person could focus on ONE uhm, "Celebrity" at a time, and then if they wish to find out more about another someone then they would need to pay for it with points or they can exchange information with the other side and all that.

It increases posting and new threads to be honest. Sorry if that's the only thing I can think off...
