User deleting?
Hello! :')
I Just wanted to know how can a 'normal' user delete her/him self?
Because I only know the way of deleting a user were the Admin have to do it?
Thanks and sorry for the bad grammar.

Hi
Just click on Profile and there should be an option there called: Delete your account ?
Just have it checked.

Hey. I'm Co-Admin in Deploratus.
Our problem is that we have put our settings in such a way, that our members can't delete themselves. We have to do it as admins. We have checked several times, and the tech says that's still in place...
HOWEVER, lately we have been receiving E-mails that tells us that users ARE deleting themselves, and we can confirm that by looking at the forum and the "guests" who is now replaced by a username.
So....
What are we gonna do about it? We want to be in control, and not having users deleting themselves left and right. How do we get the tech to match reality?
Best Regards

Hi
The best solution for this is by suggesting: https://help.forumotion.com/f29-suggestions
I don't believe that any code would be legal even if you were to get rid of that delete thing.

Uhm?
Legal?
Not sure I'm getting you?
In the past we had settings that made sure that admins had to delete users if they wanted to leave the forum.
In the tech-department that is still crossed, so it *should* be in place. But now we once in a while get email-notifications about users deleting themselves.
That is what we want to prevent. We want to manage that. I'm not sure how that can be illegal in any way? I mean...the option is there? So why give the admins an "illegal" tool? Or do I loose something in the translation-murk?
Also...I'm not sure what you want me to do in the other forum-section? You want me to suggest to someone that the settings does what the settings says it's supposed to?
I'm getting a bit confused here...

They could be using the unsubscribe tool - https://www.forumotion.com/unscribe . You can not stop someone from unsubscribing.

Why not?SLGray wrote:They could be using the unsubscribe tool - https://www.forumotion.com/unscribe . You can not stop someone from unsubscribing.
We could before?
Why did this chance?
It have given us allot of surprise-work to do on our site. At least when WE deleted users, we where in some kind of "controle" and could manage things better, and in a more professional way.
This have messed up allot of things. Is there any way we can change it back? I mean...the settings still say that people should not be able to delete themselves, but here we are, and they are. It seems a bit...do I dare to use the word..."dumb" that this IS a possibility in the settings, but there are ways to "cheat" it?
Re: User deleting?
Actually you've never been able to stop users deleting themselves, at least not in the last couple of years. I've always been able to use the unsubscribe link to delete my accounts on any forum regardless of any settings.

Okay Im not sure have many years we are talking about here. But the forum is celebrating 5 years this year, and the owner says that this is the first time she experiences it. So I have to take her words as true...you know?
I must admit, I've never experienced it at my time as co-admin in there either. I'm counting 3 years this year. We always had to delete people ourselves, and we *do* prefer it like that, because there is allot of different underfora to edit and clean up after such a thing, so even though a person might "left" the scene, we could as Admins, delay the actual departure, by writing in it to a story - there by explaining stuff, and in the meanwhile edit such things as the FC-list, sent notice out to whomever the user had threats with, and so on.
those things are completely out of our hands at this point.
Also, if there was a key-character of some sort, we had the final possibility of taking over the user, and do an epic death-scene with it, which included some of the other players on the board - which is now completely out of the cards. REALLY a shame
Because as is - the just can leave and then we have nothing more than "guest" to handle. No information or anything. Which also means, of the character had anything of remotely value for the game. An apartment, money, weapons, a secret identify, knowledge hidden in a journal somewhere - we wont be able to remember ANY of it, because that is all things that would have been written on the profile itself.
It's really
Well...
Unhandy...to say the least
Re: User deleting?
HI! I wanna say that, people would have been not unsubscribing earlier since not many people know about that tool. (infact I got to know it today!)
I very well understand how we miss out on things when users just unsubscribe like that, but its just their choice and we can't help it. You could create a topic to request users if they wanna leave or something, they should PM admins and hopefully they'll listen.
But at the moment, its just a debate of current feature, its not a PROBLEM, so I believe if you think that users shouldn't be able to unsubscribe then suggest it to forumotion,
Thanks!

Re: User deleting?
Hello,
The un-subscribe tool/link was for users to use in case the owners/admin of the forum won't delete their accounts upon request, it's the right of the users for their accounts to be deleted if they wish to.

Re: User deleting?
Hi
@Procella: Hmm... maybe I can formulate a code for at least deleting that option in text either via Javascript or CSS. I'm not sure when I'll be finished with it since my skills for Javascript is so low at the moment so I'm technically still learning it. I'll private message you if ever I develop it, sorry for the delay .
Edit: I removed this portion.

Hello
The unsubscribe link is absolutly mandatory. It is not an option. All companies on the net must let their users unsubscribe!!
It is the principle of freedom of choice!
Thanks for your understanding

Re: User deleting?
Hahaha!
Well, the point was not to try to make our users "Hostages". At all.
It was to give US time to make the story fit together, and get whatever info from the profile we needed (ingame-info that be).
We are by no means interested in having users who do not wish to take part of our community. We are really social, we meet up IRL too, having sleep-overs and so on.
The point was simply that it's a really "flat" feeling for many when users just like...disappear. And we can't remember their info, and can't make a spin on the loss of a person on the "Mysterious Island" (dam-dam-daaaaaaam)
So please don't misunderstand intent here. It's not about robbing people from their freedom to choose other forums/sites/boards than ours

Re: User deleting?
I believe that too, but the best you can do is request people to post before leaving. That's all whats possible
