Post by Klonoa on Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:32 pm

Is it possible to make forum banner [and navigation bar] cover the whole site?
Something like this: http://i.imgur.com/ayMsEDa.png

Thanks,

Hi Very Happy

You are using phpBB2, right? Well, I tried adjusting it via CSS but the whole page is stretched, so do this please.

#1 Upload a BLANK(Transparent) image with the desired height AND maximum width of the forum as a logo in ACP < Display < Pictures Management < Paste it in the logo area < Save

#2 Now, I want you to input this in your ACP < Display < Homepage < Generalities

Code:
<img src"IMG LINK OF YOUR BANNER" id="clogo" />

#3 Add this in your CSS:

Code:
#clogo {
  position: absolute;
  top: 30px;
  min-width: 900px;
  min-height: 200px;
}

You can adjust the values to your desired numbers like the one in top, min-width, min-height. You can also position it by adding left, or right, or bottom and add a #px value after it like the one in top format.

Pizza Boi

Ok I made phpbb2 forum and done all the steps, but when i save the code in ACP < Display < Homepage < Generalities somehow the code itself changes to this: <img src"http:="" i.imgur.com="" 5qvrzs1.png"="" id="clogo" />

And this happened to the forum: http://i.imgur.com/iwTyIZB.png

Code:
<img id="clogo" src="http://i.imgur.com/0rVOXyT.png" />

And this for step #3:

Code:
#clogo {
min-height: 200px;
max-width: 1470px;
position: absolute;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
}

Hi Very Happy

Actually, mine wasn't stretched, I just extended the image up until the end of the forum-width Smile . The position absolute prevents it from stretching with the whole forum, I just used a trick with width and height lol.

Hi Very Happy

I checked your forum, and when I looked closely, your forum isn't stretched, just the banner o.o.

P.S. Sorry for slow reply, was dueling.

Hey Klona, I can see what you mean. You have to scroll left and right, and that's really annoying, huh?

You can fix this right up with CSS magic.

Firstly, erase that image. We'll style it with a div.

Either create a div where you want your header to be, or use the one your header is already in, like this: <div id="logo"></div>

I'm going to pretend you called it logo, you can call it whatever you like. Don't put anything in your div tags, they're just placeholders.

Now, in your CSS, style this:

#logo{
background-image:url("http://i.imgur.com/0rVOXyT.png");
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-attachment:fixed;
background-position:center;
}

If your header is still scrolling, add width:100%

Guys I decided to change my forum version to phpb3 and I was in love with this theme i found: http://demo.nicetheme.com/forum?theme_id=200857
As you can see it has beautiful navibar, search button and logo positioning and it all without messing the forum main body. However phpbb3 doesn't allow template modifications. Is it possible to make phpbb2 or punbb look like this?

Here is the CSS the skin creator used, maybe it helps?
Spoiler:

Hello Klonoa,

You could try this :
Administration panel > display > templates > general > overall_header

Find :
Code:
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
 <tr>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_left -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_left -->
 <td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle">
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_center -->
 <a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a>
 <br />
 <!-- END switch_logo_center -->
 <div class="maintitle">{MAIN_SITENAME}</div>
 <br />
 <span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span>
 </td>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_right -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_right -->
 </tr>
 </table>

 <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="{MENU_POSITION}">
 <tr>
 <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
 </tr>
 </table>

Replace by :
Code:
<div id="forum_header">
 <table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
 <tr>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_left -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_left -->
 <td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle">
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_center -->
 <a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a>
 <br />
 <!-- END switch_logo_center -->
 <div class="maintitle">{MAIN_SITENAME}</div>
 <br />
 <span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br /> </span>
 </td>
 <!-- BEGIN switch_logo_right -->
 <td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="{LOGO}" id="i_logo" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>
 <!-- END switch_logo_right -->
 </tr>
 </table>
 <div id="forum_navigation">
 <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="{MENU_POSITION}">
 <tr>
 <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
 </tr>
 </table>
  </div>
  </div>

Then save and publish the template.

Next add CSS :
Display > colors > CSS stylesheet

paste the codes below and save :
Code:
#forum_header {
  background:#257;
  position:absolute;
  top:0;
  left:0;
  right:0;
  padding-top:30px;
}

#forum_navigation {
  background:#145;
  padding:6px 0 10px 0;
}

#forum_navigation .mainmenu {
  color:#fff;
  font-weight:bold;
  text-shadow:1px 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.3);
}

#forum_navigation .mainmenu img { display:none; }

.bodylinewidth { margin-top:148px; }

Increase the pixels in this rule :
Code:
.bodylinewidth { margin-top:148px; }

To add a margin for the header, so if your header is overlapping the forum increase the value.

Administration panel > display > headers and navigation

Tick 'no' for 'Display only images in the navbar' and save.

Find and delete the extra navbar that is not inside the forum_header :
Code:
               <tr>
                  <td align="{MENU_POSITION}"{MENU_NOWRAP}>{GENERATED_NAV_BAR}</td>
               </tr>
