First topic message reminder :

hyperparathyroid.forumotion.co.uk

A number of our forum members have experienced disappearance of their replies when they click the "send" button.

We have members using PCs, iPads and various tablets, so the problem is not specific to a particular device or browser.

I have noticed a number of previous reports of this on the Forumotion help forum, but these topics have been locked without any real explanation or investigation of the problem.

Although the problem appears to be random, I lost a reply today when another member was posting a reply to the same topic, so maybe there is a clue here?

Nevertheless, we have lost, something like 10 replies over the last few weeks, from different members, on different devices.

This is really very frustration and members are getting annoyed.

I just posted a reply to your question with the answer "Which topic are you referring to", which disappeared in exactly the same way as the disappearing replies on my forum.

My reply was posted at the same time as your reply "not the support forum" and it disappeared.
After clicking Send, the Topic was displayed, but my reply was missing. This is exactly what has been happening to our members.

Are you sure that you are not getting the page that says a new reply was posted, then there are two buttons: save and modify?

100% sure.

I am used to seeing this page and so are my members.

We do not see this page when we experience the disappearing replies, we just see the topic.

None of the topics where replies have disappeared have had the same titles.

I do not believe that there are any duplicated titles on our forum.

We still have the problem of disappearing replies when two members are posting at the same time.

It just happened again to me and it was when another member was posting a message at the same time.
In this case, I previewed my post. I then had the screen that gives the choice of returning to the message or returning to the forum.

When I went to the forum, the other member's post was there and mine was missing.

I was on this topic: http://hyperparathyroid.forumotion.co.uk/t187p30-waiting-for-results-and-so-nervous#2444 and the other member's (lucie83) post is timed at 18:03 (UK time).

Hello

If you post your message on the same time than another member, you should have the follonwing message:

You must click on "save". Otherwise, your message won't be taken into account

Yes, I am aware of this and I do sometimes see this window.

However, as I already mentioned, on the occasions when the reply post goes missing, I did not get the above window.

I get the following window:

When the reply post goes missing, it makes no difference if the member has clicked send, or clicked preview then send. The reply has simply vanished.

So, still no one can tell me if this is being investigated?

Today, I had a reply post disappear and I was taken to the log-in page, so posting my reply had logged me out and, of course, my reply post had disappeared!

Strangely enough, I was posting a reply to a member who is having problems logging-in to the site.
After seeing the essential maintenance message earlier today, this member is now being redirected to the App Store on her iPad and cannot access the forum any more.

Hello,

I'll send this topic to Buttercup again, hopefully she'll be able to send the problem to the technician, in the meantime, I would suggest again to clear browser's cache and cookies to try and see if the problem is with loading contents within a browser.

Hi Buttercup

The content of the reply posts that disappear is just basic text.

Because the post has disappeared, I am not able to send you the content ;-)

We are fairly sure that the disappearing posts only occur when two people are posting at the same time. Usually, this gives the message that another post has been created, but sometimes we do not get this message and we get the window that I already posted above.

Hi parbrook,

Be sure I do understand your trouble and it is very annoying. But, we don't manage to re-create the bug. That's why I asked you if it is happening with a specific content Sad

I will register to your forum and make some tests.

Thanks for your understanding

Thank you Buttercup

I appreciate that this is a difficult problem to solve.

We tried to replicate the problem in a test topic, but were not successful.

It seems that there is a very small time-slot when two replies are being posted that results in this problem. I estimate that this happens between 33% and 50% of the time when two people are posting on the same topic at the same time.

So, I noticed that the previous topic with this subject has been locked.

http://help.forumotion.com/t132687p60-disappearing-reply-posts

Does this mean that no one is trying to resolve this problem any more?

It happened to me again this evening, so i do not understand why the topic has to be locked if it is unresolved.

Is anyone actually doing anything to resolve this?

So this means that problems that have not been resolved will always go to garbage and be forgotten ?

No. It is set up where the forum automatically prunes threads that have no new replies.

You should bump this thread every 4 days, so it will not be sent to the garbage.

OK, but this still doesn't tell me if anyone is trying to resolve the issue, or what progress has been made.

This problem should not be too difficult to replicate.

Two people posting on the same thread at the same time.
around half of the reply posts will disappear and the other half you will see the message that another reply has been posted.

I have created a new topic that you can use for testing: http://hyperparathyroid.forumotion.co.uk/t242-admin-test-topic#3059

Hi

I will do some test on your forum today.
You can delete my messages by the end of the day
I will try to have the same issue.

@SLGray:
Do you want to register on the forum and make some tests in order to see if you also have the problem Wink

If you manage to make a video it would be wonderful.

Thank you Buttercup

Because it needs two different people posting on the same thread at the same time, it is impossible to know if/when someone else is posting.

A video is not going to be of any help.
As I have already shown in the screenshots previously posted in this thread, you see the standard responses - either that your reply has been posted (you then discover that it has disappeared), or that there has been another post.
