Allow Admins To Donate Reputation Points

Post by Captain Hunk on May 28th 2014, 4:04 pm

In the Modules tab at Points and Reputation, there's a Points donation feature for an Admin to adjust points as they see fit for either one member, or for an entire group of certain members. This is only available for the Points System. I would like to see one for the Reputation as well. Allow the Admin to donate as they see fit.

Simple yes or no will do. Comments are welcomed as usual.

Sorry, but I believe reputation should stay the way it is.  It is based on if other members like what the member is posting.

And there's nothing wrong with you continuing to do that for your members. If your definition of reputation is solely for that reason and basis alone, so be it. Why deny the rest of us who see it differently? Who also see that as a way of correcting those who abused the power? Of being able to reset it to zero when called for? Only the founding Admin can enable this feature, not a secondary admin or moderator if that what worries you and others who share your view.

See I think admins should have control of this feature to dish out rep because people can horribly abuse the system.

Also administrators can abuse this suggested system.

True but if admins were to abuse the system then most people would leave the forum and go elsewhere. From my experiences on other forums...members are more likely to abuse rep.

For example friends will ask friends to rep posts and if they get into a debate with another member, the person will tell there friend to give negative rep to the other persons posts.

Since admins can't reset rep or alter it in anyway then the abuse could continue.

In turn admins could abuse the system but in saying that....admins could do a lot worse than mess about with a rep system.

Hello ^^

Reputation is a vote
So if that suggestion was applied we should do the same for polls.
Allow admins to change the result of a poll. (for polls too people can cheat with it telling their friends to vote like themselves)

This thing is applied in many countries. It is called dictatorship.

Your argument, Neptune-, doesn't make sense. If you as well as others who share your view don't believe in any form of dictatorship, then no Admin should even determine how many points and reps each member stands to earn per forum. Moreover, no Admin should deny a member from disliking another member's post. As you know there's a workaround to take away that option. There's a reason for that. Ask any staff member why that is and they'll gladly explain it to you.

All in all, there are many tools available for an Admin to use as they see proper in their forum. If the Admin does not want to enable the Point System or Reputation, for example, that is their choice. That doesn't make them a dictator. If they don't want to use the Character Sheet, that is their choice, too. And the list goes on and on---and none of which makes an Admin a dictator for not using them.

I am merely suggesting an option for those who would like to have it available as well. I don't, however, expect a lot of votes these days. Not too many seem to log on anymore and that is a far greater concern to you than my mere one idea which may never see the light of day like so many of these other ideas.

Sorry, but I voted no. I think this would take away the value of the Reputation system.

No for me. Reputation is something earned from helping others or the like. If reputation points could be donated, then it would become a very different case.

Sorry, but no for me. I just don't see the benefit in changing this good system.
