Solved footer links Configuration

Post by 0ldcat on June 15th 2014, 6:34 pm

Hello and Help please,

I am trying to configure footer links on my forum (phpbb3). I know where it is in the ACP that I need to be doing this.

My problem is, that I would like to have the "footer links" look like a navigation bar, with images instead of text links.

i.e.   rather than www.co.gb & www.burp.pardon (they are not real links by the way).

Is this at all possible ? or am I pulling my hair out needlessly on a hopeless task ??

The usual
Code:
[url=(link to web site)](link to nav img)[/url]

Does not seem to fit or have any effect in any of the boxes

Screen shot :

What I am getting ~

Where the red arrowed (and highlighted) text is is where I would like to have the above exampled images.

Have I made sense ? Can you Help ?? . . . . . I'll check back in 24 hours.

Thank you for reading.

Would you like them next to the footer links or above or below?

 Having had a think about it. Probably above. Would it also be possible to have them scroll horrizontally from right to left as the user looks at the screen ??

Perhaps a slightly slower, and smoother ?

Thanks for looking.

Hello,

Have you tried HTML code?:

Code:
<img src="URL OF IMAGE HERE" />

or

Code:

Okay,

I'm not sure which forum version you're using, but it looks like phpBB3. Okay, follow the steps shown below:

1. Open your administration panel, and go to "Display."
2. After, look for the option: "Templates," below you'll see: "General," click on it.
3. Find the template called: "Index_body."
4. Click on Edit
5. Search for the following code:
Code:
<!-- BEGIN switch_legend -->
<ul id="picture_legend">
 <li><img src="{FORUM_NEW_IMG}" alt="{L_NEW_POSTS}" />{L_NEW_POSTS}</li>
 <li><img src="{FORUM_IMG}" alt="{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}" />{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}</li>
 <li><img src="{FORUM_LOCKED_IMG}" alt="{L_FORUM_LOCKED}" />{L_FORUM_LOCKED}</li>
</ul>
<!-- END switch_legend -->

Note: Can be found on lines: 124-130.

In between: </ul> and <!-- END switch_legend --> you'll be adding this code below:

Code:
<marquee behavior="scroll" direction="left" scrollamount="2"><a href="URLhere"><img src="http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/18/13/43/29/polo11.gif" /></a><a href="URLhere"><img src="http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/18/13/43/29/louis12.gif"/></a></marquee>

Note:
1. Make sure you replace the part that says: "URLhere" with your own links/URLs.
2. You can change the speed of the scroll by increasing the #
scrollamount="2"

So, the code will look like this at the end:
Code:
<!-- BEGIN switch_legend -->
<ul id="picture_legend">
 <li><img src="{FORUM_NEW_IMG}" alt="{L_NEW_POSTS}" />{L_NEW_POSTS}</li>
 <li><img src="{FORUM_IMG}" alt="{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}" />{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}</li>
 <li><img src="{FORUM_LOCKED_IMG}" alt="{L_FORUM_LOCKED}" />{L_FORUM_LOCKED}</li>
</ul>
<marquee behavior="scroll" direction="left" scrollamount="2"><a href="URLhere"><img src="http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/18/13/43/29/polo11.gif" /></a><a href="URLhere"><img src="http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/18/13/43/29/louis12.gif"/></a></marquee>
<!-- END switch_legend -->

After saving it, make sure to publish it.  Add

In li tag you'll figure put for how to properly fit the best thing. Same sort of thing happened with my professional website design service forum but at the end things turned out great.

Firstly, . . . Thank you all for looking, reading and your help on my issue.

Jophy ~ Thanks, no, I had not thought of html  fufufu

Sir Chivas

What can I say ? . . . . Cheers.

The code worked. I was even bold enough to place a "space" between the img gifs . . .
Code:
<img src=dot.gif height=1 width=10>
I was aware of the new feature to alter some of the forum coding . . . but until now had been a bit apprehensive of attempting anything.

I am pleased mark this thread as solved. Thank You
